Was checking out some of my old guitar mags from the 80's and came across an old interview with Andy Summers.
Well this led to me breaking out some Police CD's.
Such a breath of fresh air for me. Guy is so good I never realized it. Dont need to shred to 'rock'. ;)
Tried to play the beginning of "Every breath you take" and thought my fingers were going to lock up!
Anyone else wanna add on this or just toss out your fave guy that dont get much lime light.

Since you said "lime light" I'll say Alex Lifeson...outside the Rush heads not much respect.....but what an innovative talent!

Yes! Another great guy that gets little talk in the community but has put out some of the best rock songs ever!
And read that article on him that he is also a Pilot in the Canadian Military.

I fully agree with the above two posts!

What about Neil Schon? He is well recognized, but I do not believe most people realize how good of a player he is until you learn some of his solo's note for note. He has a wicked vibrato and his bends are so accurate. Great song writer as well.

Also, Randy Rhoades, Michael Schenker, Rik Emmett, Brian May, Glenn Tipton, Dave Meneketti, Gary Moore, Warren Haynes, Mattias Jabbs, Frank Marino, and Neil Geraldo

Another one of these guys with KILLER leads that are still getting radio play this day....
Gary Richrath from REO Speedwagon!
Hi Infidelity just oozes with great guitar work.

Check all the early Les Pauls, he use to have.

Another great player is Elliot Easton

I totally agree with you! I was never a big fan of the band but he has one of my all time favorite lead tones!
And his playing as you said.....KILLER

Another vote for Neil Giraldo. Tasty, memorable leads with just the right amount of flash. Great songwriting. Perfect coupling of great guitarist behind an amazing, and cute, vocalist. Total 80's rock and roll power couple with so many great songs.

Team Felder/Walsh. Perhaps not so unsung....but so good.

If we're talking 80s guys, two come to mind. Bryan Adams's, Keith Scott & Power Station's Andy Taylor. Taylor was in Duran Duran, but was killer in PS. That whole band was killer.

Gary Richrath did have a nice tone back in the day and could play--always enjoy hearing him

I got to see the Police twice back in the day.

And so many cool guitar songs and different ways of stopping. The Stray Cats were big then.

Seltzer could rock it and have a party on stage doing it!

Guitar of any style ruled back then!

Was thinking the same thing as I was reading the first post.

If you listen to 2112 or La Villa Strangiato it is hard to imagine why Lifeson does not get more respect.

Maybe not enough spandex and Aqua Net?
