I have a SD Vapor Trail and is really crisp in front, but can get overloaded because I play with pretty high gain.

I put it in the loop of my Friedman BE50 and my guitar tech said it sounded normal to him. Delays can sound darker in the loop than in front, but you have more control over it. He also said digital delays and/or delays with a tone control will sound brighter and more crisp in the loop as they would up front as well.

Any thoughts? It's been years since I've put anything in the loop of an amp, so I just cannot recall what delays are supposed to sound like and I usually always put analogues up front, but I want to use the loop for now.

EDIT: 4-2-18: I put my boss digital delay in the BE50 loop and it was perfect. WAY Better, so color me stupid for not knowing the difference sounds of analogue vs. digital in an FX loop. I also tried them in my Egnater Semiinar loop and same thing: analogue was dark and not to my liking and the digital delay was perfect.

Cheers!

Lots of pedals are not designed for line levels but Instrument levels.
I have a tech 21 delay that seems to have no trouble taking loop level.
There is no change in tone and no distortion.
I'd just try another pedal or a 19" unit.

Your tech is right. If you want your analog delay to be more crisp and have more attack, run it out front. I am an anti- fx loop guy though so take that worth a grain of salt. I like ALL my pedals out front, they are like colors with painting.

Running a delay in front of angain channel is just wrong. With high gain you’d want some of the tails to soft the high end

Analog delays are dark in the loop for sure. Normal. our loops are pedal level even..

Agreed and I just edited the initial post. I put my Boss Digital Delay in the BE50 loop and it was glorious.

If anyone wants to read my thread on the transparency of the BE50 fx loop, it's in my other BE50 Deluxe thread.

Best loop I've ever had. Zero tonal difference to mine and several other ears when we turned the loop on and off with FX plugged in and FX not plugged in.
