Dumb question, but when you say your Roland JC-120 is angled, do you mean the slight angle of the combo's baffle or do you have a special version of it?
FWIW (and this most likely won't work for you), I just grabbed the EVH 50w head and two 2x12 cabs. I guess most folks know by now, the cab is at or near 4x12 depth & width and tilts back. I've always gigged with a 4x12 cab and will always prefer that. Never liked any 2x12s, but the EVH isn't too shabby.
The volume issue has been coming up more and more lately with the band I'm in. Not necessarily directed at me, but I felt like it was time I at least tried to keep my end of things somewhat manageable for everyone I work with. I can completely understand folks (patrons, bandmates, sound techs, etc.) not wanting to be in the direct line-of-fire of a blaring 4x12 cab.
Being a bit more old-school, I didn't want to give up a tube amp and cab. The EVH rig seemed like the obvious choice and so far, it's working out great. I think it's ideal middle ground for players who need to keep their volume in check, but don't want to go the modeller / in-ear route. I have the flexibility to put the cabs anywhere I want (or can) around me, and hear the rig as loud as I want without bothering or killing anyone else. Couldn't always do that with my 4x12s.
Can I ask, does your Roland HAVE to sit on or beneath whatever cab you end up getting?
