That's pretty much what early to mid 90s Classis Premium Plus are going for these days. This one looks like it's in excellent shape. I'd love to have one of those. Not real keen on the finish. It's not as clown burst as I've seen but its close.

Classics are not low end guitars. A premium plus top one especially. 60’s neck, smaller headstock, the plus top, no weight relief, etc make these the first mass produced “reissue”. They have hot ceramic pickups, but that’s an easy fix if you don’t like them. Great guitars for the money. I’d take that over a new Traditional any day.

I'm under the impression, to the OP's point, that 'Classic's are on the low end of the Gibson LesPaul spectrum...especially from a resale $ value.

I love my LP but damn Gibson could you make your flagship line any more confusing?

My recollection of LP Classics were the snot green inlay models which were def a couple notches down from Standards. But I guess they had these LP Classics Premium Plus that were actually a notch or two above a Standard?

At the end of the day, I still think you just have play a bunch and find one you like. Play a bunch of historics then find a Standard or whatever that meets or exceeds them. They're out there.

to the OP, that is worth 2500 all day thats a early historic model not a classic model...killer top too

I have to say that looks like a decent deal. That’s a great top.

Yep, definitely not a Classic. I have a Classic and they all have the "greenish" trapezoid inlays. Mine had a "Standard" truss rod cover when I got it in a trade and was too much of an idiot at the time and wasn't paying attention. It is a good guitar though, just annoyed me it wasn't a Standard because that is what I wanted. Got a 2019 Standard now and it destroys!!

It is indeed a Classic model. It’s what as known as as the Classic Premium Plus model. They were classics with very nice tops. The owner is wrong by saying it’s based on a 59. It still has the slim taper neck and still says classic on the headstock. As for snot green inlays, they weren’t that prominent during those years. My #1 is a 96 Classic gold top and the inlays are nowhere near as green as they got.

Who'd rather buy a Standard than a Classic? (*everyone raises hand)

I dunno man, that's a pretty broad assumption. I've had Customs, Standards, Classics and Traditionals and I've had better success and enjoyment from my Classic and Traditionals. It's all subjective I suppose.

I miss my old Classic. Snot inlays, swiss cheese weight relief, but it played great and was the best sounding guitar I've ever owned. I don't even remember why I sold it but I highly regret it now.
