Another Gibson Masterpiece

Why does the guitar in the OP have a zipper?

On another gear forum:

Mottos:
Gibson: "When only a Gibson is good enough..."
Heritage: "When good enough isn't..."

Not a Gibson hater or Heritage fanboi, but that made me laugh.

I look at some of these guitars and just wonder, WTF? and shake my head in disbelief.

I can dig it to an extent. The knob layout sucks... and I'm not overly nuts about the headstock. However, I can dig that korina body with the gold hardware.

They should concentrate more on quality control and improving their existing models.

This!

A guitar is a blank canvas for innovation. There's so many little things that they could improve.. Or just making a LP with different features to meet a more 'modern' quota.

An earvana compensated nut like ESPs have. Such a tiny thing that would be really awesome.

Guess all their good ideas ran out a half century ago.

Gibson's head designer.

The headstock shape , logo, an the color were all taken from the moderne model of the 50's that was never really released. Is this lp custom shop historic or regular production? Is it korina at all?? Looks like a guitar shape might have liked.

Gibson has actually been doing this for ever, luckily they never last long-

Not my type of shit but still, my LP rules big time. Can't blame Gibson for trying to reach more "potential buyers", they are a business and they want to make money, a lot of it actually, so they try to come up with new ideas. Put this in the hands of Buckethead or another mainstream/trendy player and they'll sell a shitload of it. People like and buy trendy stuff.

I can't figure out how in the world would someone pay 3 to 4k for a Custom Axxess LP - it's just an LP with a Floyd for fuck's sake!! Gibson are business people and they try to come up with new ideas, and yes, some folks will pay close to 4k for the Axxess, so with no surprise they will sell some of those ugly headstock Gibbys.

The only new Gibson guitars that I really like are these two...

"The traditional Les Paul mahogany body/maple top is graced with a distinctive swirl finish with a limited run of 300 guitars in each finish. When the Gibson factory flooded, 55-gallon drums of lacquer spilled. After the waters receded, these swirl patterns were on the floor. The mahogany neck has a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard while a 490R neck humbucker and 498T bridge humbucker harness the resonant power of the time-tested selection of tonewoods."
That blue one would be bad ass with a flamed top and no swirls. I love that color of blue (as you can tell from my avatar).
