Another new Mesa amp (Maybe Hetfield's sig amp??)

I know they're synonymous with Mesa but I think it would be cool, kinda trippy maybe to see them go to Marshall like way back when, early '80's...

Unless there is a massive change from the top down, plus they are saving 10k Net a show per guy using the axe Fx.

How does that work out? Saving 10k per show by using an AxeFX ? Are those roadie and tube fees?

I think Het and the guys can afford the extra 10K per show. I pretty sure they can "stretch" the budget a bit.

I mean if they are this serious about bean counting... I don't even know where to begin. :aww:

Hmm..looks interesting. It would make sense that Mesa would do it if JH wanted one, the Petrucci amp is a 100/60 2C repro, maybe this will be a simulclass version?

Didn't he slave the preamp section into a 800 for Masters? Might make more sense to have 6550's haha.

Why does everyone keep referencing 6550 tubes for old Metallica? They were in Denmark when they acquired the JMP used for "Ride the Lightning", and I'm sure their broke asses that couldn't even afford to eat were not flying head units across the ocean by when "Master of Puppets" was recorded. Chances are any Marshall they used in the studio had EL34s.

I also highly doubt any slaving happened into a Marshall. Flemming had pretty detailed notes, and there's no mention of a Marshall at all. When directly asked about it, he said they tried lots of stuff, but never confirmed it either. When they slaved into the Strategy 400, there was detailed notes. I find it hard to believe that a man who kept such detailed, meticulous notes that documented every other aspect of guitar recording across those albums mysteriously forgot to write any mention of an entire amp/process they supposedly used. You out it all together, and all signs point to no Marshall slaving.

10k per show is a lot of money at the end of the year.

Not when you're Metallica. I'd like to see what their merchandise sales cut is per show. I'm sure it's a bit more than 10K.

Maybe Lar's could always cut back by buying one less painting per year also.

^^^
He balances it out by selling some of his collection now and again in those artsy fartsy auctions

I have the Mesa JP2C and it does MOP so well that it's uncanny. Mesa already has Metallica sound for sale.....unofficially.

Seriously. If they really cared about tone the extra $2.5-$3million in transport expenses is worth it

If true and the amp itself is legit I would have no problem parting ways with my c+ and early recto. Not gonna hold my breath though

Don't get rid of them I still miss my racktifier.

interesting but not enough info to even remotely start getting excited about it :dunno:

Anyone know where these video's were taken? That might say a lot.

Also, I bet James has multiple Mesa amps at his home/studio/storage that were given to him by Mesa over the years as prototypes or whatever. 'Hey James, check this one out and tell us what you think'.

"Yes - we did a lot of stuff like that. So YES is the answer.

Flemming Rasmussen"

Isn't he confirming it there ?

Yeah, I'm familiar with that thread. I was the one who initially suggested they reach out to Flemming, and that was me he was answering on the page you were quoting...

I could see it on leads for Kirk, but I don't put any stock into it for rhythm. Like I said, nothing in the rhythm guitar notes which are well documented, not a single pic of a Marshall in the studio for "Puppets" either. You only see one around for "Justice".

Fair enough. :) now you mention it, it does only seem to be in the Justice era photos.

I tried similar at home by slaving out the IIc+ through a jubilee 2554 (don't have a jcm800) into a Diezel 2x12 with scumback 65s and it certainly sounds pretty darn cool anyway.

They were taken at Met HQ and seem to be recent.

I really don't get the saving $10k freight per show. They don't ship their stuff city to city. They load them along with stage and lights and PA into 18 wheelers and drive them.

Seems more like a less maintenance and easier setup move than saving much money in the haul. Like you said, they aren't shipping their gear from show to show, they transport it in semi trailers.

The weight of the tube amps, etc.. might be slightly more but with all the gear they haul from show to show the weight and size difference between their Axe Fx rigs and their tube rigs seems minor.
