   One of my all time Favorites  Sounds like their returning to their roots. Great music, great vocal and outstanding hamonies

good band, i always liked oz fox solos, michael is a great player too. i seen them a few years ago and they sounded great.

Michael looks all fired up, the other guys seem a little less inspired :)
I like the song.

Just listened to the album on Spotify. I think it is great and really enjoyed the cover of "Jesus is Alright". Michael Sweet does have some pipes...not many guys his age can still hit the high notes.

Listened to the album yesterday on my way home from work, great album! It's got some heavy stuff on there, refreshing to hear a really good hard rock album!

Finally picked up the album 2 nights ago and listened straight through a few times tonight. What a great rock/metal album. I'm surprised its not getting more praise from the RT family, especially with the phenomenal guitar work. I'm assuming its because of the usual lyric content

I love when they show him plugging into the Splawn! :)

I jut watched the DVD that came with the CD. It shows them in the Massachusetts studio. That Splawn is in a lot of the shots, some with him playing it. Another thread had an inside source saying that all guitars were a Mark V on IIC+ mode but I didn't see a Mesa head anywhere in the video.

I hear there's something about "honk" being talked about.. and mids being pushed??? ;) .. Had a conversation with my bud Rupe, letting me know there were some 'questions'.. Let's hear 'em.

In the meantime, let me clear the air a bit if I can. Nothing was plugged into the amp, other than a pedal or two, no PEQ, no boost, nothing to affect the Mark V on the IIc+ setting.. (of course, there is the EQ on the amp but trust me, the smiley face reigns supreme! Always has)..

What's funny though, is that mention of "honk".. if I could tell you how many times Michael has had me listen to his tone and his expression of sheer disgust when even the slightest thought of "honk" comes up, much less can be heard.. so its quite interesting and unusual to hear that word used in any way shape or form.. too funny! Needless to say, I may have to share you guys' thoughts and see what his take is.. it can almost be considered a sin under these circumstances..

We'll be at the Whisky in LA this weekend.. its a sold out show.. I've got lots of gear and endorsement details to review so, if you've got any questions, hit me up.. I'll try to get some answered.. :)

Oh yeah, cool to hear you guys dig the album. I think it rocks could had fit perfectly into 1988! I'll let the guys know what you think.. I'm sure they'll be thrilled!

Amazing how Michael has such a distinct mid-spiked tone (dare I say honk? :D ) that is, according to you, seems unintentional. Not that it is a bad thing at all, definitely a trademark of the band. Another thing that amazes me is how consistent his tone has been since the early 80's as well as with the various amps and guitars he has used. As far as the Splawn stuff, it is no surprise Michael seems to have taken a liking to them because Splawns have that distinct mid thing going on also.

Thanks for chiming in. I was going to say something critical just as a matter of personal taste. But hey you're here sharing, and they're still out there doing it, so I'll keep my trap shut this time. ;) As a matter of personal curiosity, did they ever have some dude make a guitar or two for them that was from Oregon back in the day? I'm pretty sure dude was from Grand Ronde, Oregon to be exact. I tried out the same night as him for a metalish band many years ago, and he brought this photo album of some of the guitars he had built. IIRC he had some pics of at least 1 or 2 of them holding guitars that he said he made. Anywho, I can't expect that you would even care to remember something from forever ago, if your were around at that time, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

So what pedals are being used to drive the distortion in those clean amps? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that if Marshall cleans are the platform, that a distortion pedal and a Tech21 for "tone" (honk) shaping is being used?

Does he ever actually use the Splawn? I have seen him play it in NAMM vids and what not but my cover band (Outta The Black) covers "Soldiers" and we are working on "The Way" and my Quick Rod sounds great for Stryper stuff.

I liked that song and it rocked. Nice to hear a hard rock song these days....

Awesome band... saw them back in the 80's Micheal Sweet is amazing guitar player and singer and does both live...

Never was a huge Stryper fan, but this sounds damn good!!!!

Saw them a few times in concert. They still bring the rawk!!!

Main pedals are a Radial bones distortion and an acoustic DI Tech 21 paradriver.. The ISP decimator is also an integral part... the best for cutting noise with no losses.. (company owned and built by the engineer of the original "noisegate" from the 80's). Input can also vary from front end or into the effects loop.. but mostly front end.

BTW, you guys may dig this... Michael and I are in discussions with ISP right now, to not only come out with a Michael Sweet pedal, utilizing the current ISP 'Theta' platform, but also a multi-effects pedal that most likely will feature a distortion, chorus and delay. These will be limited edition signature pedals. Good times!

Yes he does.. and it is used extensively on the album as well. Both the Mark V and the Splawn were used throughout..

Did you say "Outta the Black"??!! Who's this??.. bro, its Ian!! :D And did you say "The Way".. you are gonna make Oz swoon!! Lol.. Better let me know when you plan to premiere that cover as I want to be in Vegas for that show bro!
