Another Sweetwater thread, Friedman content

I’ve had great experiences with sweetwater for the last five or six years. I used to enjoy incredible pricing when I taught guitar at a local Detroit shop, sometimes my rep (Jozy Franco) hooks me up really well, sometimes I don’t ask for a discount, & normally there’s some small discount.

i’d still prefer to give my business locally if I can, but Sweetwater sure makes it easy especially when you’re not home often and you want something delivered.
With my travels I’ve also purchased gear in the store. Great building if you ever get the chance stop in.

Anyways, I like the demo program and normally i’ll ask for and receive a small discount on whatever it is I might find interesting.

two days ago, there was one JEL 20. I’m rolling through there on business this week and I thought I would check it out in the show room so I emailed my rep.
Then yesterday there were two of them
Last night, one of them sold, so they were down to one.

today there are three of them available.

that means in the course of three days, there may have been five used jel’s from multiple indecisive wankers constantly sending them back. They’ve had several demos of these already since the amp came out, maybe one of those was used in the Sweetwater video, but I have to think you’re just buying somebody else’s used stuff at this point. I know they state demos are used, but this has gotten silly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel or revise the return policy.

that’s gotta be a tough way to run a business even if you were a massive shop.

(I predict the JEL 20 will be a dime a dozen in a year and a half)

I am wondering if the economy has something to do with this. Typically when I make a big gear purchase, the bills come out of no where.

Another thought, is that maybe this is the new trying before you buy. Old school you went into and tried out the amp in person, now you order and then return it.

I learned a long time ago to stay away from downsized versions of 50 and 100 watters .....

I think it really comes down to .... they sound fabulous on video .... make total sense to most guys to have the lower wattage ..... they get them home and realize quick ..... it's not what they thought ......

if you look on GC used section ...... there's probably more Friedman JJ jr's than any other used amp ... a lot of people weren't impressed with those either

I made the same point in the Sweetwater thread. Something will show "out of stock", the next day they miraculously have one in stock. As far as I'm concerned, that's a RETURN. They turn right around and resell it as new. The shipping box usually tells the story. Usually battered from multiple trips across the US.

I bought a Kemper years ago online and after I purchased it, it showed as backordered.. didn't before I bought it. I waited a couple of weeks and then found one in stock somewhere else so I called to cancel my order and they said they just got one in and it is on the way. When I got it, it was used.. I bought a regular priced, brand new Kemper Toaster and got a used one. That's trickery so I sent it back on their dime.. didn't like it anyway so it worked out good for me.

I haven’t tried it yet. I might stop at Sweetwater Thursday, by that time, they’ll have sold the three that they have and picked up four more!

i’m not that interested though, I’d rather buy the Steve Stevens version two in the other thread.

regarding it being a dime a dozen, the JJ 20 is a dime a dozen today. there are dozens of them on guitar center for resale every day, not to mention elsewhere. they were good for Cantrell, good for Friedman, now good for Jake.

The JEL will could be more units sold.
unless everything completely crashes if we hit World War III with the corpse in chief.

At any rate, this is their policy and they're clearly not hurting. Even at the discounted price on the Demo models, they are still making money on the gear they sell, that I can guarantee. I've personally never had any issue with SW sending me anything that appears "used" when I'm buying new but can't say it hasn't happened to someone else.
