The study: SafeMinds, an autism advocacy group that had long blamed vaccine ingredients (especially the mercury-based preservative thimerosal) for autism, helped fund a long-running primate study. Researchers gave infant rhesus monkeys the full 1990s-era childhood vaccine schedule, thimerosal included, and compared them with unvaccinated monkeys.

The result: published in PNAS in 2015 (Gadad et al.), it found no autism-like behavior and no brain changes in the vaccinated monkeys.

The title says it plainly: "Administration of thimerosal-containing vaccines to infant rhesus macaques does not result in autism-like behavior or neuropathology."
