So this is what I'm getting at. I understand the nature of OTC and bans aren't just thrown around, but it does appear there has been selective moderation concerning the only two lines in OTC that shouldn't be crossed. Since I've been here the only two rules mods have been adamant about not breaking and strictly enforcing are blatant racism and pedophile accusations. It's always said that would be insta-ban.
Again, I understand handing out bans are limited, each situation is given individual scrutiny, and mods have the discretion to allow the person making the infraction to redeem themselves without a ban. But we have several situations concerning the 2 hard lines that are supposedly not tolerated if crossed being treated very differently.
I screen grabbed MM's post since it summed up everything in one post. You have the thing with Lisa which was mentioned and I'm not going to go into since it's more a tangent. The main one is Saddle's post. You have MM say it's "technically a pedo accusation" which implies it's not an outright accusation. I won't pretend we don't all know what Saddle was saying, but there's at least a shred of room for interpretation. He was warned, at mods discretion given the chance to make an apology; though he refused, an was ultimately handed a ban this morning. The main point here is he was called out and reprimanded for his post.
Then you have the set of posts from RGX that I pulled with a 5 second search. Unlike Saddle's posts, there is absolutely no room for interpretation. He flat out called Saddle a n****r and barely a word was said to him. He got more ridicule from the public than he did from any mod. In fact, the only mod to barely address it was MM (last screen grab) who subsequently did nothing about RGX's blatant racism. No ban, no you need to apologize,
To quote MM "Consistency / impartiality and all that" but what we're seeing is anything but. I do want to make it clear I'm not accusing the mods of not being impartial, not doing their jobs, or anything like that. I clearly understand it's a pain in the ass job; especially for OTC, and y'all are doing as best as possible to balance "free speech" and forum moderation. It's just that there is no implication to the public at large these things are being addressed. There's been no transparency. To the public eye it appears to be selective enforcement of the only 2 rules not to break. Saddle gets reprimanded & banned while RGX's infraction is swept under the rug and continually ignored. Like I said, I'm not accusing mods of anything, but this is not a good look the way it appears to the rest of us.
I want to add I'm not trying to single out MM, it just happens to be his posts that are relevant to the situation. Also want to say I'm not singling you or any other mod out either. This whole thing has been festering for the last few months in OTC to the point I felt it needed attention drawn to it. All the mods here are good dudes and I don't want to see any of y'all be stuck looking bad or backed into a corner scrambling to save face.
