I posted this on TGP too but I want opinions from you guys who seem to favor heavier stuff like I do.

So, I play metal mostly, but the band I've been jamming around with likes to play 90's rock and grunge too. Alice in Chains (I know, Friedman seems right), Tonic, Goo Goo Dolls, things like that, then up to Pantera and Killswitch Engage. It doesn't have to be perfect for all of those things but I'd love to be able to be in the ballpark of all of them, amp + boost pedal where needed.

With all of that in mind, I'm down to these; EVH LBX I, LBX Stealth (is the original on par? cheaper), DSL20 (would consider the 40 combo), Orange Dual Terror, PRS MT15, Victory Kraken, Sheriff 44 or Friedman JJ Jr.

I'm not trying to replace my other amps for recording necessarily, just to sound good at volume with a band for practice or smaller gigs. Is the DSL series as good as the others for rock/metal or do you really get much better from something like the JJ Jr or Kraken to justify a lot more cash?

I’ve been using the Bogner Atma for the last year covering the styles you mentioned. Great workhorse.

To really cover that range i would say JJ mt15 or kraken, if you are going to spend most of your time on the lower gain range maybe the dual terror

dsl 20 and 40 are fine but they are quite fizzy at the higher gain ranges.

Forgot to mention my guitar player rocks a Engl Ironball 25. Sounds as good as the Atma…yes warm, slightly more aggressive

I like the LBX over the stealth, the mids sit great and it’s an aggressive little bugger. I’d also recommend the Engl Ironball 25W.

Not to be a pot stirrer, but the new 5150 iconic sounds like it could nail pantera quite well and the green channel could do AIC.

I kind of fell for the non-Stealth LBX in videos so might do that one day regardless. Although I tried a Stealth in Guitar Center and it was super cool but I went for a JJ Jr. I also tried a DSL20 again. Liked it but big tubes aside, I liked the Stealth a lot.

The Bogner 3534 has you covered for all the genres you’ve mentioned and many between, it’s an awesome box of rock!!
