I just stumbled back onto his work....I really was awe struck by him and his live performances back in the 80s
I see he reassembled his old band in 2013 for a disc- cool!

Here's a tune with MHarris- who is actually way smoother and fluid, as well as David Harbour on bass who makes my jaw drop with his bass solos.

Right here. Chastain ROCKS!!!!! David's a sick player and Leather's one of my favorite singers ever!! "Chains of Love" is my favorite tune of theirs!! \m/\m/

Right on!
He was being advertised as "The American Yngwie" when CJSS was hitting the radio
I was lucky enough to see him live countless times in a small all ages club
His fretboard sliding is insane! Leather was by far his best vocalist- she has a great grizzle going on

Wasn't he a Cincinnati guy? I remember a band called CJSS being pretty hot back in the day in my hometown.

Shred mixed in with 80's hair riff and vocals!

Yep, lived in Cincinnati during the CJSS era. Saw them several times at Bogarts and I actually took a couple of lessons from him.

The first tune in this thread reminds me a lot of how Andy LaRoque used to play before he got even better.. I had one chastain album with "leather Leone" singing. My god it was horrid, total shit. 4 guitars all layered over one another. Stale playing. Wasn't the biggest fan.

I have a couple of his albums. He's a great player....whatever happened to the guy? I know he never wanted to leave Ohio or something

I was a huge fan of his back in HS. The 7th of Never is to me is apex work. I love how he mixes melodic and harmonic minor runs; he was like a metal Holdsworth (sans the legato).

Huge fan...I can't fully explain, while he's not head and shoulders more proficient than a lot of his peers as a shredder, something about his playing is just so much less boring. Comes up with lots of great riffage too, a very metal player.

Oh, and sorry Kapo, but another fan of Leather Leone here, she could belt it out. And still can, they reunited with a new Chastain album last year, she sounds awesome, definitely worth checking out if you like the old stuff.

Here's a clip from the latest release:

Haters can go play with their Djent sticks :D

David is a great musician and I LOVE me some Leather Leone's voice.

I wore 2 tapes (yes I said tapes) out of "For Those Who Dare".

IMNSHO one of the most gifted and underrated/unknown players out there.

Yes he lived in Cincy back in the 80s. I used to see him when he was in a band call Spike. I have a few songs of theirs when they were on the old WEBN album projects. I think on the of songs was called I Need Money. Cool old tune. I think I still have the album out in the garage.

We used to go see him all the time back in the day. Bogart's in Cincinnati and the Alrosa in Columbus. Opened for him a few shows too. Those early albums had some cool tunes, really liked Ruler of the Wasteland and 7th of Never. Strange guitar tone sometimes with the Lab Series and the rack mount blue MXR flanger thing.

The newer stuff doesn't do much for me, but the older stuff for the time was pretty cool.

Been listening to him for Years, and I love leathers voice!!
