Yeah it’s nuts. Started life as a Fender Custom Classic a friend bought new. He was excited about it and told a random customer about it at the shop he worked at. Random customer starts coming in regularly and tells my friend he should bring this guitar in to show him. He brings the guitar in, random guy says “nice but we can make it better...” Friend thinks “ WTF dude?” Asks random what makes him think he can “make it better?“ his Custom Shop guitar?? Asked him what his background was....heh. Guy tells him “ Well, I started the Fender Custom Shop...” Turns out it was J. Black.

When he walked away from Fender after a meltdown he moved to Eugene, OR and didn’t tell anybody. J. Black basically invented the Relic Program. He took this guitar and completely redid it, refinished it, corrected the neck pocket, did a bunch of fret work, put all Glendale hardware in, Ron Ellis pickups. This thing is a beast and rings like an acoustic guitar. I called J. Black once to ask about getting another Bakelite pick guard from him cut for a regular Tele neck pickup and he told me in no uncertain terms “ I’ve been around and built a lot of guitars in my time, I’m going to tell you that guitar you have is not one you want to change a single thing on, don’t do it. Buy another guitar if needed but you will regret messing with that guitar” So I took his advice and left it.

How did I end up with a Master Builder re-worked Tele? I was going to buy a Swart amp from my friend and he had me play this Tele through it, it was unreal. He told me I should probably take the Tele too and made me a deal I couldn’t refuse on the pair. I’ve had it 10 years or so and a few times I’ve considered selling it but play it for about a minute and always decide against it.

Didn't notice that there was a dude called "Tele" in here.

Tele Savalas?

Anywho, still waiting to see some blondes... :dunno:
Mate I recommend downing a carton of Tooheys and rolling up on a pack of blonde bush pigs an sees if youse can get a root out of it ?

Awesome story VF.

Don’t ever sell it , or it’ll end in the “Killer Guitars you regret selling “ thread, Hahaha!!

DAMN, that is a GORGEOUS Tele.

That neck is just INCREDIBLE though.

One awesome guitar.
Thanks. I'm more a Les Paul guy, but for Fenders I love the blondes or anything that shows some wood. When I saw the roasted maple neck...I got my first Fender.

Now I need a matching strat. Digging the twins you got.
