I have a Charvel 3dr from 1989 I believe, and our other guitarist has one from 1988. Great player's guitars IMO. I was even able to get one from the States to Finland fairly cheap.
I did upgrade mine with a DiMarzio Super Distortion and OFR plus a custom paint job, the other guy has a DiMarzio Tone Zone and the stock bridge, JT-6 I think.
Talk about bang for the buck, mine cost with all the upgrades less than $400 and it plays like butter and sounds like heaven
They were pretty good for a mid-priced Japanese import guitar at that time. I've had a few and while they really can't be compared to their original custom built San Dimas ancestors, they certainly offered some bang for the buck. With some of the upgrades like Michi mentioned they were great gigging machines.
The blue one is. I bought it as a backup to the black one which i bought new in '88 or '89. The black one is beat to all hell and still plays like a million bucks, but its going to be my sons one day...
yep. those were good base guitars and if you ditched the electronics, threw a real FLoyd on there they are excellent guitars. I had a bunch of them at one point when you could buy them all day long on eBay for 150 bucks.
