What's the price on these? $1500+? Are they that much better than a used Avenger, which you can find for less any day?

The Avenger slays them.

I use to own a Avenger and never could get along with it. To me the HR25 sounds amazing in comparison.

It's all personal preference though. You aren't really going to know if you love any amp or not until you try one in person. Everyone likes different tones. Great we have so much variety in the amp world these days.

Ive had the slo , the avenger 100, hr100 plus and the hr25...the hr25 for me is the best of them all....keep in mind I dont need 100watts anymore either but it can keep up with a band no problem, just gets to the sweet spot sooner then all the rest for me and the loop is much better...

I'm into the small watt amps lately. Definitely want to check one out.

I've seen 2 of them on Reverb, one has "upgraded?" HR50 transformer and some other Mod. Is it really worth it?

Is it a pedal-friendly loop?? I had an HR50 about 10 years ago, and it's still one of my top-5's, out of about 50 amps since. But, the rack-level loop was always a deal-breaker for me. I've eyeballed this amp for awhile. But, at $1700+ used, that's pretty stiff.

They moved the loop position to post-tonestack so that's an improvement for starters...

I dont think the bigger tranny will do much?, was going to depth mod mine but lately haven't felt that's even necessary..I bought mine new for about 2k and I plan to keep it forever but 1600-1800 for used is reasonable imo for what you get..

I agree about the HR50 transformers. Not sure they are really a upgrade since the HR25 has custom wound 50 watt transformers already. They are just wound with a lower plate voltage to produce the 25 watts. That IMO makes the HR25 sound different from the other Hot Rod Soldanos and more like the SLO.

To put the HR50 transformers in the HR25 you might as well just buy a HR50.

Yeah I watched a YouTube Soldano vid with him talking about the HR 25 having the SLO preamp section. Really cool layout and features. Didn't help the gas

He said that about every other Soldano product as well though.

True but with the HR25 being Mikes 25th Anniversary amp model I think he really wanted to do something special and IMO he did with this amp. It really does not sound like any of the other Soldano Hot Rods. It just has a character of it's own and IMO is more of a Hot Rod on steriods/SLO tone than any other amp he's ever done. Personally I love this amp.

I have found that certain pickups really make this amp shine. If you don't like it try a different guitar with different pickups. It seems to really love mid to higher gain passives.

The Avenger slays them.

I had an Avenger that slayed , was a 50watter...Should have kept it, that amp haunts me !

As much as I would luv a 100w SLO amp I know I probably never get the vol off of 1 :aww: and get the full tone of the amp.

I'd rather have the HR25 over an Axe FX or kemper unit emulating a SLO

Hit the nail on the head. I would choose to drop cash on a tube head with one or two killer tones before a Kemper or Axe every day of the week.

I would dial all the amps in the AFX2 about the same.
I did find I like the tone of the SLO,HBE, Train Wreck and Dr Z. I couldn't get the XTC close to my 20th XTC amp or Mesa Mk III. I guess if I TWEAKED it enough I could. Effects took a lot of tweaking and time from playing. It proved to me I am a pedal guy   I like knobs and instant gratification. Then I always wondered how close it really was to a real pedal. No doubt with an amp and pedals.

I think I would be happy with the OD-BE pedal and there is a Dr Z amp and cab I am afraid to try at GC

I guess I`m the odd man out as I really didn`t like my HR25 at all. To my ears it just sounded really buzzy with flabby low end , using a TS type pedal really didn`t make it any better. Thru my 4x12 w/Scumback M/H 75s mixed my Splawn SS flat out smoked it to my ears . Maybe my ears just don`t care for the Soldano tone

Figured I'd quote my own post here so others don't need to dig back but for people that have owned Soldanos is it safe to say if I didn't care for the HR25 I'm not gonna like an SLO or HR50 to name a few

-is it "an" SLO-

-or-

-"a" SLO?

Because you pronounce the "S" with a vowel sound it's "an". If you pronounce it like "slow", then "a".

Very possible you just do not care for the Soldano voicing. They do have a unique character about them. Never heard one that sounded really buzzy with flabby low end though. Maybe something was wrong with the one you had?

If you didn't like the Hot Rod 25 then there is a good chance you would not like the other Hot Rods or the SLO. Of course the only way to know though is to try them if you get a chance.
