i just picked one up on ebay for $119. it's okay; not the best tones in the world (and not really all that different from other dunlops i've had/tried out), but certainly versatile enough to dial in something smooth with enough tinkering.
I hear ya JD. The Dunlop classic I got merely because I'm a tone whore and I do not like anything between my Herbert and my guitar. The classic according to Dunlop is their only true-bypass wah. However it didn't sound much different than the standard Dunlop.
The Cantrell doesn't look too much different.
One thing I really do not like about the Dunlop wah is the momentary switch you need to bang on to engage it. I was thinking about the standard Morley VAI-1 wah since it claims to be “true tone” bypass and is switchless - looks interesting. I really just want the wah, not all the Q stuff and whatnot.
Modified circuitry
The circuitry of the Dunlop Joe Bonamassa Signature Cry Baby wah pedal is custom modified to Joe's specs from the inside out. The modified vintage circuit has an internal switch that allows you to select true bypass or non-true bypass operation. Mr. Bonamassa prefers non-true bypass as it cuts off some of the high end and darkens his tone. An output buffer is also incorporated into the design to prevent impedance imbalance with your vintage pedals. Dunlop designed the Joe Bonamassa Cry Baby with a big vocal sweep range to accommodate any style of music.
