Any of you guys just rock a Marshall 2203/ 2204?

I pretty much stay on one channel of Randall RM100 with Marshall mod and roll a boost in front when needed. Volume knob on the guitar for gain levels.

I would love to see more vids where guys not only mic up their super duper channel switchers but also their 2204 with an sd1. Hearing them back to back I bet people would be less inclined to think there is that drastic of a difference. Rockinchippy ? Put that stealth and Friedman or sl68 up against a jcm800 with an sd1 in front and let's see if it doesn't hang with the big boys.

See, I agree with Kapo...a good Jcm /Jmp will easily hang with anything out there, boosted of course. Low end is lacking, so you nu metal de-tuned guys would need an eq pedal with some low end added...but when you get a good Marshall at volume there's nothing that can blow it away...it'll hang with any boutique. Maybe the boutiques are better in some ways per players taste but I won't ever believe that this/that amp blows a good Marshall away. No chance. And if you believe your amp does then I think you haven't played a good Marshall then.

As for the low end, I find it depends even on the individual amp as some values have drifted over the years or they used what they had. Maybe it is because I like less boomy low end but my 800 has more Han enough bass. You are right though, eq or parametric eq will change these into fire breathing monsters. Furthermore, isn't that the point of a bass player?? They fill out the low end.

Yeah, this is a great point. Players often forget that a guitar amp has to 'fit' in the mix with a band. All that massive low end we like when at home in the bedroom is in the bassist's territory. Granted, not everyone gigs, so that's something to take into consideration.

Hell yeah! Its the workhorse amp. My home base tone is 83 JCM800 2203 w/6550 w/Boss DS-1 in front. I have Bogner, VHT, Splawn, Mesa/Boogie amps along with the 2203. Whenever I plugged in to the 2203 after not playing it for a while it just put a smile on my face...ah sweet once channel simplicity.

My THD Series One Plexi is probably my favorite amp. A 50 watt JMP clone.

I thought you had gone googo for gaga over the Friedman stuff? Sometimes nothing beats a classic though! I mainly play a very very lightly tweaked 2204 and a stock if 800. I boost with Koko boost or straight up with an sd1 or ge7. Sometimes I stack Koko with sd1 for more sustain. These modern Amps are much easier to play when you saturate but I feel an amp that makes you work has the benefit of increasing your skills. Maybe this is why so many 80s guitarists have more of their own style than the guys today do. I find stock marshals cut and stay tight. There is also way less fizziness to my ear. This is the sound that is on countless albums for a reason. Any other amp I have is variant of a higher gain Marshall ( Randall stuff).

I'm actually thinking of selling my Friedman KS Marshall, just cause I kind of prefer the simplicity of a 2204 and a pedal.

The JCM-800 2203 and 2204 are some of the best amplifiers, and probably the best Marshall ever made.

It's a great amp to build your sound around, as in it can sound so much different depending on the guitar/pickups and boosts, overdrives... so you can make one 800 sound way different than the next because of this transparency and ability to take pedals so well, especially OD's... and on top of that it has the perfect voicing to cut through just about any mix.

Yup, my favorite amp is my 2204 with Monte Alum modded SD-1 or Maxon OD9+ is all I need.

I've a modded 73 jmp and it's mental. Love it. Also rockin a Jcm slx which is no slouch either...
I used a late 70's jmp and cab for years in a cover band with a fuzz pedal lol blissfully ignorant but hey, it worked
:)

So your amp is a one trick pony? It goes fast in a straight line and that's it?

Don't you get tired of failure charveldan?
