One of my guitars, a Suhr Custom Modern has Suhr pickups in a HSH configuration and I don’t like the tone of them. Any suggestion for the bridge and neck?

Body wood: Basswood
Neck wood: maple
Fretboard: rosewood
Gotoh FR.

On that particular guitar I’d like to play anything from Tesseract and Dream Theater to Andy Timmons and Marco Sfogli using my Diezel Herbert.

Dimarzio bridge - Illuminator, Evolution, Crunch Lab, Transition... Dimarzio neck - Air Norton, PAF Pro, Illuminator, Evo, Transition etc...

I love the Air Norton but have never tried the Illuminator. Will these two work together? Don’t like the Evolution. They are to bright for my ears.

Illuminator is a great pickup. Lots of clarity, fat mids, smooth highs. Med-high output. Illuminator is one of Petrucci's pickups, and he's used an Air Norton in the neck too.

I just took the Suhr SSV and SSH+ out of my new Suhr Modern Pro. They just did not work for me at all. I put in a Dimarzio Breed F spaced bridge and a Breed regular spaced neck. It was exactly what I wanted and sounds perfect in it!

Will the Aldrich do smooth tones too? The ML single stays on the guitar. It's a reallt nice pickup. Please tell me a bit more about the Thornbucker and Aldrich with a Herbert.

The Aldrich bridge sounds/works great with the Herbert. Plenty smooth and liquid. It's like a perfected SD JB, without the mid-honk and zero mud. Plenty of output and articulation. Really great all around pickup. The Thornbucker is like a mildly hot-rodded Gibson PAF... more vintage/warmer/smoother... in the 9-9.5K output range iirc. Really nice warm neck pup. Not the best for neck shredding, but great for open rhythm chords.
