Any thoughts on new Marshall SV20H Plexi?

Man, I'm tempted. Very tempted. FX loop is icing on the cake too. I can boost the lows, cut some highs with a 10-band in the loop, and hit the front end with an Airis Savage Drive, GT-OD, EP Booster, or Wylde OD. In my quest for a Plexi on steroids, this seems like a great recipe! Decisions, decisions...

I have found, I just prefer less gainy amps that bloom with a little help, (like the mini Jube, and even the Trasher wasn't over the top). The EVH was just insane.

As much as I hate to say it, the Runt 50 is back in the fold. What I didn't like about it 2 years ago, is what I actually prefer today. Less gain, that can get aggressive with the right pedals. Anymore, I dislike insane gain. I'm more after note definition, note separation, and clarity, (but still like my tight chug). Plus, I've become more of a lead player, and lead tones are super important to me these days.

Right now, it's between an SV20H, Runt 50, or possibly the big boy Thrasher 120. I loved the 50, but felt the 120 would give me what it lacked, having a master volume and 2 more tubes to bring the beef.

For those who think the Thrasher is totally off from the other 2, it's not. It's not an over the top gain monster, at all. I loved the 50, (and miss it).

Yeah I’m on the fence about getting the 20 watt 800 or the Plexi. I’m feeling the same way about gain and I’ve always been a Gain monster. Been listening to a lot of old Uli Roth and Yngwie, even Van Halen, and that juiced up plexi sound is just glorious.
So much that even I find the 800 to sound compressed to my ears these days.

More organic. The 800 has been tossed around too. It's almost the obvious solution for me, but, like you, I like a browner sound, just want a little more beef.

My ideal tone would be VH1 meets Dino's Fear Factory Demanufacture. The beef of Dino, the brown of VH.

That would be my ideal tone too. I can get very close with my Soldano Avenger.

I'd love an Avenger. Can't find one with a pedal friendly loop at a reasonable price. Soldano people think they've struck gold with Mike's recent news.

I'm waiting to see one in person and give a try, cause I really didn't like in all youtube demos I've heard so far. It was really lacking that airy yet aggro old Marshall thing, and sounded somehow congested, and rauchy, but not in a pleasant way.
I was interested in a mini plexi as well, a friend of mine had a Ceriatone low wattage plexi and it was glorious with an OD, so I do know what to look for. Gotta wait and see, cause I wanted one as well, but for 1.4k for the head it HAS to be a damn fine amp.

The mini Jube is the same price, and I owned and loved it. Real deal tone.

I know where you can find a killer deal on a Runt 50 ;)

I found one locally, in state. If I decide to pull the trigger, I can have it tomorrow.

I was interested in yours, but you're several days away, and I have no amp! The EVH sold on Reverb in a day!

The new Marshall stuff looks interesting, but the price is insane. I bet they could be great platforms for mods.

I kinda thought the prices were alright. I know they are PCB with a lot of ICs, but if the tone, controls, and added versatility perform as someone would want, 1299 isn't bad imho.

At this point I just have a hard on for the possibility that these are gonna be great. We'll see when some folks get them in hand and start talking.

Agreed. I feel like they should have come in under 1k, maybe 899$ or 999$ tops. The power options are nice however but the price point still high considering they are going to be going head to head with Friedman and his mini JJ now.

Also agree though, a juiced Plexi or 1987x is la bomba! I also like how open they are and pedals just push them properly vs all the fizzy built in gain of the high gainers. Of all the high gain, the SLO is still the best as it stays raw unless you really turn the gain for the compression. SLO and Marshall, best tones of our generation.

I don't get the gripes about price. It's made in the UK, and built wonderfully. The Mini Jube was nice as well.
This isn't Asian shit, here.

I don't get why everyone blows their load over "made in the UK".. is it a PTP board? Not likely.. where do you think 90% of the parts are made? You guessed it... China or somewhere in Asia. UK built means they just put all (or even a few) parts together in the UK and brand it that way. You mean to tell me that the chinese work force doesn't know how to troubleshoot electronics lol? They can solder just as good as anyone when it comes to parts on a PCB and I bet it is mostly machine done anyway so they probably receive the populated PCB boards and throw them in there in the UK factory and throw a stamp on it "Made in the U.K"! It's fantastic marketing. If the components are solid and the design is good, there is no reason why a chinese amp can't be a good piece of gear. It is nice to see complete manufacturing done in the west though and that is probably also why Friedman amps cost what they do. The manpower is not cheap over here or anywhere outside of Asia.

Guess I'll be the Guinea Pig! I bought an SV20H, I'll have it Friday! Fingers crossed!

The Hardest Part for me with the tone you described is that, I am only tuned down a whole step to D Standard. Once in a while i'll go as low as C# Standard but that's about it.

Savage Drive will give it some love. May even run the EP in front of the Savage!

I'm still old-school 440, and Drop-D. I'm more of a thrash tone guy, but I like aggressive. Blue channel on the EVH was killer, lacked some grit. Red channel was/is a useless mess, IMO.

I love the brown, agro Plexi-in-meltdown tone, hope these can do it. It’ll still be loud without an attenuator/reamper, but I would think it at least will be tolerable to be near it.

As much as I love that tone, I’ve found that it can’t seem to work with my 7 and 8 strings. It works in the top six strings and sounds glorious, but as soon as I touch the lower strings it’s a bit too mushy. The more compressed JCM 800 thing works well, though. I guess it’s just enough compression and low end cut.
