Eric,
I had a MiniMix and I can say it is a definite improvement running the FX through it in a series loop. But, to answer your question, yes - there was still a bit of tone change and feel with it plugged into the loop and without any FX plugged in. Anytime you break the signal flow from the preamp, something is going to change. Not sure which amp and which loop you are contemplating, but the change is noticeable. Almost like simply jumping the send/return with a straight cable will get you some change in feel. The MM should be constantly returning dry tone to the signal path, which it does, there will be a little loss in the processing and in the actual set up of the loop for line/inst. levels or both. The loop is going to be reprocessing dry tone as wet tone and the MM passing that processed tone back as dry tone. All that said, the MMII is a fine piece of gear and works well with what it was meant to do.

THANKS Mark, Casey and Steve. . The amps I'd use it with are a Baron K2 , a BFG-modded Marshall 100 watter, and/or a Bradshaw Marshall . Also have this wicked cool Engl Rackmount rare stereo amp with 4 el84's a side, that I LOVE but it only has a series loop and it's an ok loop too like the others, but I'd rather it be parallel and would like delay trails, etc. . I've been meaning to pick up either the Suhr or RJM, but as you sorta indicated above, I always get a little apprehension that although it'll convert fx to parallel , I'll end up losing some of my basic tone /feel by having it in the series loop . I'm picky about some stuff like that, but it's mainly because I hate having to keep bringing more and more gear to gigs I'm not sure if you guys play with bands that every band member sets up and tears down equally , but not me! Anyway , thanks for the info , and definitely sounds like it's worth trying and then I'll need to make up my mind if it's worth it!
