Anybody else block floys with money?!

I've always blocked my floyds with rolls of coins (taped together); one in front and one behind the block.
Recently got an ESP arming adjuster which allows me to still push down on the floyd but also semi-blocks it from pulling up (you can adjust the tension on the adjuster so it's basically preventing pull-ups, so string breakage and has no effect but allows you to still pull up with enough force. it doesn't help w/ out of tune double-stops though).

Anybody know how the tone would change if I replace the coins w/ blocks of wood?
Better/worse?

German coins used to work best, but their quality has dropped, so I use Japanese coins!

I used pennies, but it sounded kinda cheap. Upgraded to quarters and the sound was much richer.
:D
Seriuosly though, I used pennies and wood on a stock Fender tremelo at different times and there was no difference in sound that I could hear. As long as the trem stayed put I was happy.

I have several gits with "The Claw" installed and I love them, buy them every chance I get/see one. Always wanted to try this...http://teuffel.com/english/guitars/niwa/body.htm
I don't currently have any of my Floyd's blocked, I float them all but if I were to block them I think I'd go this route.

Why buy a Floyded guitar if you're going to disable the trem in both directions? Just sell it and buy something with a fixed bridge...

yeah, I use $50 to block out trems and it's perfect.

(also known as a Tremol-No)

Not a Floyd, but I partially block a strat type trem with a couple of coins(Canadian I think) and half a knob.

Used to like Floyd's.... Now I don't....still love those guitars though and not getting rid of them just b/c of the floating bridge...plus, I really like the way the bridge feels under my picking hand.

If you want the bridge to be locked in place, just use 5 springs and screw the claw down all the way. You'll break the vibrato arm before the bridge will budge. Never understood the purpose of blocking it like Clapton.

I'd try something like this. I have something similar in my Peavey HP and it definitely beefs up the mids when the block and L bracket are in contact, and I can still dive bomb if needed.

That's hysterical. I use the red things from Grolsch beer myself.

Clapton used a block of wood. I did it to my Floyd rose on an old ibby I had. Never realized others did it at the time lol
