I've been shopping for 2 months for a Les Paul, (Studio, or Classic, primarily), and eventually went for an NOS SG Standard, (2016), at a great price. Always wanted a cherry red SG! People were wanting $900+ for "good" condition studios, and $11- $1200+ used to mint? Please.. $750 should get you excellent, $900 should get mint, in my 30+ years of buying/selling. On the classics, $12- $1400 good, $16-1800 mint? Again, ridiculous.

After returning the Runt 50, I looked high and low for a good deal on a Thrasher, but $1200 used for a Chinese amp, no thanks. $1500 new isn't really justifiable in my eyes, either. No Thrasher 50's to be had, either. I talked a guy into shipping a Diavlo RD45H that was mint, that was local in NY, but got a great deal shipped to Tampa. Killer amp, (my 3rd RD45H, I LOVE these amps!)

Now, for the past week or so, I've been looking for another Pro Mod So-Cal. Again, people are higher than a bus load of mexicans at a Los Lobos concert. $700+ used, when you could probably score new for around $800, at a Sweetwater or other retailer that discounts.

What gives? People bitch about slow markets on gear, but you're asking too fucking much for it! There's a few on here with some way overpriced gear as well, ebay, and Craigslist too. Best prices I've seen have been on GC used, believe it or not. They used to be the worst of the bunch. But, I don't trust their description of excellent or mint are on the same page. That gets me too, people list things as mint, and clearly show damage, bumps and brusies galore. I saw a "MINT" LP Studio on Reverb for $1299, but in the description, "professionally repaired headstock break, otherwise mint", for TOP DOLLAR, when new ones were $1399.

I don't get people.... I just don't. Alot prefer to buy used, for obvious reasons, but anymore, I'm more inclined to buy new. I can rest assured it's factory-sealed, and I can return it.

I saw a Jackson Chris Broderick on Reverb with an asking price that was WAY higher than a new one on Sweetwater. WAY higher! Like more than 1k higher.

Nothing special about the guitar. Just an off the shelf model.

Here's a good one...

The 2016's are $1299 new, and even less with a phone call and credit card in hand.

$1500, plus $80 shipping, USED. Do they not do some homework, or do they think people are stupid? What's even more funny, is it's his FIRST listing on Reverb, and 4 more idiots are WATCHING IT!
Who the hell WATCHES a listing about $600 too high, from a first-time poster?

Lots of crackheads over there in regards to pricing. They obviously don't want to sell their gear... just post pics of it and talk to tire kickers. Low prices always work.

If you wait, you should be able to find a Thrasher around $900-$1000.

I usually find cheaper prices elsewhere. I will say that usually if there are 25 items, there may be 1 or so listed reasonable. But maybe people try it because there are so many low ball offers. I get people asking me if I would take $500 for a strat I had listed for $900, which was the cheapest strat of the same specs. So maybe people are going high in hopes of getting a reasonable price?

There was just a thread about this a week ago.

Yeah, Reverb is dominated by guys "in the know" on gear and are asking top of the market prices. The plus side to all of that though is, if you post your stuff at a decent to good deal, it usually moves pretty quick. When I want to sell something, I want to sell it. I have sold a guitar as fast as 1 hour on reverb.

^ True story. When I absolutely want to sell something, I'll check the lowest price on there and go 10% cheaper or something. It always sells inside of a day or so.

Lot of crackheads trying to recoup that 3% by asking $400 more than is reasonable though...

+1 on this. I sell everything I list.
I consider owing it 'rental fees'
Just wanna get back my 'deposit' :D

I'm trying to buy some pickups for an incoming guitar.

Perfect example of reverb sellers...

Guy wants $172 for a Nazgul/Sentient combo that is used and no box
https://reverb.com/item/4354891-seymour ... kers-black

A dealer wants $189 or BEST OFFER, free shipping. Likely $175 getting it done.
https://reverb.com/item/802543-seymour- ... 11108-96-b

I messaged the guy and said I'm interested if he's willing to get realistic on his price.

I hated those pickups. Had them in a Schecter Banshee that was an amazing guitar, another one of my many regrets. I should have put a Custom and '59 in it and kept it. Korean made, but flawless with original Floyd.

I have an F spaced Nazgul laying around here somewhere. I had it in a high end BC Rich import. I really liked it for full on metal. Thinking about trying the EMG 57/66 combo, I haven't ventured into the new EMG stuff yet but the new look they have is killer, compared to the plastic covered 81/85/60.

My guess is the high prices are the starting point to offset the inevitable low ballers who peruse that site, CL, etc.

I'm willing to make reasonable offers, but if I see a very high list price, I don't even bother. Being that far apart in starting asking vs offer price isn't conducive to negotiation. It's like walking into a job interview asking for a salary triple the market rate, they probably won't even have a conversation with you. But, lowballers are gonna lowball. So if they're trying to avoid lowballers, I would imagine it probably backfires. The best way to deal with lowballers I've found is to just ignore them or say no and move on.

Prices are naturally going to be higher due to people looking to offset fees incurred by using the Reverb platform.

Personally I have found one or two guitars at a decent price. Even sold my Jem lng for like 2200 on there once. No idea why but I was bored of it. Big boo boo lol

Their fees are pretty reasonable though. It's just under half what eBay charges these days if you use Reverb direct checkout.

I've also had the fever to buy a Les Paul over the past few months. I've been scanning Reverb for any deals they may have. The only "reasonable" prices I have seen are on guitars that have the headstock snapped off and glued back on and even at that, they are high.

Back in the day a damaged axe like that would be at LEAST 1/2 the price of any other used mint condition guitar. I think these people are smoking some really good sh*t. That or there are a ton of suckers out there paying top dollar for frankenstiened axes.

I still have a few months before I have the cash to buy but from what I'm seeing, I'll be looking for a good deal for a long . . . . long time before I find it. And I will most likely NOT find it on Reverb.

I thought the sellers fees on reverb were 3%? sound right? Ebay is 10% I cant stand the guys who inflate the shipping rate in order to show a lower purchase price... like we are all retarded and cant do the arithmetic.
