Anybody got a fix for a stripped pickup mounting thread

Just got a new (used) guitar and one of the pickups has a stripped thread so while the screw will thread, as soon as the spring starts to compress, it pushes the pickup back down the screw. I tried to put some tape around the screw but that didn't work, and so while I figure I can (hopefully) find a nut that will fit the screw, I just wondered if I'm missing a home-brew solution..

Sure do. I use small brass nuts that fit the mounting screw threads. Scuff them up with sandpaper and scuff the underside of the mounting leg. Solder the nut on the underside. Is this what you mean by nut? You could try to retap the thread also but it might be too far gone. Next size up tap if you can find a mount screw with the same size head. The brass nuts work a treat.

I had that happen.

Fill it half way with solder then attempt to screw the mounting screw through it. It'll create new threads in the solder. Worked for me.

That's guys - right now, I'm using the quickest and ugliest fix which was to jam a toothpick in the thread and tighten it up and it's holding for now. But I'll give the others a try cos there's no way this will last LOL

Gotta try to find a nut that works now!

You could try and find a screw that's slightly larger ..That's my plan to try first , I have the same issue with a pickup I had to drill out slightly for direct mounting and now I have swapped it to a guitar with pickup rings.

not too big of threads so you should be able to just go up a size- or the jb welding a nut someone else posted but going up a size should work seeing as how there isn't much thread in the plate anyway-
