Anybody here A/B the Cameron CCV and the Diezel Herbert?

Of all the amps I've owned, these are my two favorites. I haven't had them side by side, but will in about 8-10 weeks. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum from a tonal perspective if you ask me. Both are great in their own way.

RoidRage did. He owned both at the same time for many months then sold the Herbert
Did he say why? I recently got to play some Herberts. It seems like the Herbert can literally do it all. I went from an incredibly singing high gain tone to convincing SRV tone. There is soooooo many great tones in the Herbert. Dave when I played those Camerons at Paiges I was impressed but it seems like you get more with the Herbert. As far as high gain tone goes I could be very happy with either.

I have had both side by side. Totally different amps. Like Apples and Lobsters. Diezel Herbert is modern and German sounding for lack of a better term, very high fi and polished. CCV is more mid rangy and chewy and just pissed off Marshall. Together blended they are sex.

Agreed, two totally different amps at different ends of the tone stack.

Jim, Brad would be more than happy to help you have both to do your own shootout in the comfort of your home :D

Played them both like many others here but not at the same time. The Herbert is the only Diezel I've kinda liked but i didn't like it as much as you Jim. There's still something in there that makes me think Diezel's are not for me. Call it what you will, hi-fi, sterile, or whatever it is.

IMHO the CCV is a much more raw, in your face, angry sounding Marshall voicing. I feel in a live band mix the CCV would cut through a lot better than the Herbert. Herbert owners would disagree, but go crank a CCV and hold onto your nuts.

I guess for modern detuned metal the Herbert may have the right vibe for that.

That would be great. I would call off sick for a week! But my wife would turn into Loraina Bobbett(sp?) because I would have to heat up a lot of plastic. In due time I hope I will be able to snatch up another nice amp. Atleast Brad has made the Camerons a realistic option again.

I have.

Very different amps.

I preferred the CCV by a large margin, but I do like the Herbert for what it does.

talk to erock, he owned a ccv and herbert at the same time and has some clips i think.

Yeah, and he still has the Herbert. He did say he loved the CCV though. As mentioned earlier it's like apples and Lobsters. I have one and would like the other.

.......all in due time. :gethim:

Im a big fan of the herbert and i know he likes his also.
i talk to him alot on aim and the ccv is a amp he always said good things about.

hopefully he wont mind me posting these vids

i think he also has some recorded clips on netmusicians too.

The Diezel just has this bottom end thwwack that kicks ass. I honestly like both and could see a time and a place for both. Maybe in stereo? FTW.

I OWNED BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

Like Brad Says so different it's hard to compare.. Totally different animals...

The Herbert Is TIGHT, and more HI-FI sounding...

The CCV is Looser, Not as loose as a Vintage Marshall lets say but looser than the Bert. The Herbert has a more agressive top end somewhat harsh.

The CCV has More Grind, and Is more organic, and vintagey... Although can do modern tones.

They BOTH Pound with Big Bottom ends... I think the CCV is more versatile, and much easier to play.

I found the Herbert too tight and hard to play for me... That's why I sold it...

I'll always keep the CCV!

It should be noted that the build quality on the Herbert, and versatility on SETTINGS with the optional foot switch is unparalleled.

Hope this Helps...

And Realize not knocking the Herbert just did not suit my preferences of 80's/90's Rock, Ratt, Whitesnake, Motley, MSG, Scorps, Judas Priest, ETC... Had I been into TOOL, I probably would have kept the Diezel also.

Anyone want to buy one of my kidneys so I can have both.
I'd love to have a ccv to run in stereo with my Herbert..
Maybe then I'd stop gassing for a vh4s :bash:

I wouldn't see much use in wasting time to set up and A/B a CCV and a Diezel. They are not even on the same plain.

gotta agree with this as with the bottom end comment.

FWIW i see the herbert as a more useful tool, and generally like the german voicing.

IMHO i really like what i hear about the herbert mark II revoicing, taking care of the issues i had with the mark I i heard live.

Those video's are great. I just bought a new CCV.

What sucks is I have to sell my Herbert

So I've been going back and forth in wondering on the CCV and selling the Herbert.

Right now not playing a CCV yet. The Herbert is my favorite amp.

Out of all the amps I've owned or played and I own a real 69' plexi & a original JCM 800 2203, a Diezel VH4 , Engl Savage, Recto BF, etc.

I agree, apples & oranges is a right description. :)
