Lol.

Yeah they just started. Never heard of them but this song rocks man wow.

Ha ha.

Heard that track last week, this lineup of the band CRUSHES! Gene the Machine and Steve DiGiorgio (both ex Death too) are suck excellent additions. Looking forward to the new album. :)

It's weird. It sounds like programmed drums at first, then I have to remember Gene the atomic clock is playing for them...

I am not sure about this release, but I've read other interviews with other metal bands stating that the drums are programmed on most metal releases because the budget isn't there to properly record drums.

Again, I don't know if this is the case here. I would say, that I don't feel they utilize him to a great extent. Listen to Symbolic by Death and imagine those drums on the last three Testament releases. I personally feel that what Lambardo did on The Gathering was perfect for the band. Why they don't want that with an even better drummer blows my mind.

Yup

As much as I enjoyed Testament's last two releases I'm not feeling this new track (Night of the Witch) at all.

I totally agree, Lombardo brought it on The Gathering. They should be utilizing Gene’s talents much more than they’ve been. It almost sounds like he’s on a leash. Anyway, the new tune is pretty killer and I love the guitar tones. Wicked slur and bite in the mids and highs.

I dig it. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album for sure.

The Gathering was an amazing album but tbh I don't think Testament can do any wrong. Amazing band, I prefer the really old vocal sound but they are still bringing it and Skolnick is probably my favorite lead guitarist of all time.

He pretty much is on a leash. I comment on something when Brotherhood came out about how robotic the drums sounded and he chimed in saying he started of playing the songs one way and Eric basically said no man we want this almost machine like thing.. so thats what he did, sad really

Yeah. I heard this track a week ago or so. It’s okay. I think my reply to friends was “the guitar tones aren’t for me.” They sound like a sansamp PSA-1 direct with old impulses. Just saying. Nothing organic to the guitar tone at all.

That's too bad. I saw them on tour two years ago at a mid sized club. I got to briefly meet Gene, I told him he was the reason that I was there. He smiled and said thanks. Even after the weight loss, the man is a giant. I'm 6'1 and he towered over me.

I love Testament, I like the newer albums, I just wish they would go full in with modern drumming. To that end, I wish they would allow Gene to play his style to the older songs. It's cool that he plays them exact, but imagine hearing Into the pit, or Dog faced Gods with blast beats and dual rides.

Been a fan from the beginning. The New Order is the be all end all for Testament for me though. That album is a masterpiece from start to finish. The Legacy is a close second.

I think the tones are pretty righteous. Wonder if it's Kemper, or EVH. Never really heard EVH's sound that mean.. Skolnick could be using his Budda, Peterson an EVH?

Have not cared to look, but I know for a fact that Dark Roots of Earth had both Kemper and real amps and you can BARELY if not at all tell the difference.

To my ears Brotherhood of the Snake had the same guitar tones so I would say Kemper there. Have not compared this new one yet. Did Sneap produce?

Edit: Also who tf wrote this wiki. Part of this is flat out wrong

Tales of Creation will also the band's first album to be produced by Juan Urteaga, who had recorded, engineered, mixed and/or mastered their previous two studio albums Dark Roots of Earth (2012) and Brotherhood of the Snake (2016).

Isn't it Titans of Creation?

Pretty sure Sneap did Dark Roots.

Maybe Juan does the mastering idk.

I didn't care for Botherhood.. Sounded overly compressed, like boosted with an SD-1, but in a bad way, (cocked wah bad).

Formation Of Damnation was killer, tone-wise, Peterson used all EVH on that one, and Skolnick a JCM2000 DSL boosted with a Tubescreamer.

I wish they would unleash Mean Gene, but otherwise I agree with you. They’ve stayed true to themselves and their fans since day one and have my total admiration and respect. They’re still fucking bringing it and they’re heavy as ever. But I sure would like to hear Hoglan go SYL on those Testament tunes. :D

Very sad. Surprised Gene is playing along with that. They’re probably paying him pretty well though. Guy’s gotta eat I guess.  I wish that Dark Angel reunion would happen already!

I’m 6’4” and he towered me! He’s at least 6’6”-7”. I’ve met him a handful of times at shows over the years and always address him as “Mean Gene!!!” The last time, he was half his previous size, so he got a “Wassup, Lean Gene!!!” Very cool dude.
