... or am I awfully late on this one?

To switch hi/lo inputs on an amp, just plug in a latching footswitch in the unused input, and switch between both inputs.

Every amp is different so it doesn't work on all brands.

It does work with the 5150, but the overall gain on the Hi input is reduced if a jack is plugged into the low input.

I have a Marshall JCM800 4010 combo model that has high and low gain inputs but the volume and tone difference between the two inputs is way too much to just switch for solos. I wonder if I could put pedals in line as well, or at least an EQ to adjust the tone and volume for the high gain channel?

It won't work in a JCM800. I understand that having anything plugged into the low input effectively shuts down the high input. It has to do with the fact that the inputs are not actually separate. I think the low input feeds into the high input, but it something's plugged into the low input, it breaks the input signal from reaching the high input.

Worked fine with no issues on my head.
