Anybody rocking a DSL?

I love my DSL! I think I got one of the last run of UK made ones.

Killer amp for the money and if you can't get a good tone out of a boosted DSL, I dare say it's not the amps fault.

I use it like a single channel amp though. Lead 2 with the gain on 3, boosted with either my BB Preamp for VH type tones or my Majik Box Rocket Fuel for heavier tones. Turn off the pedals, roll off the guitar's volume knob and I get my clean-ish tones.

I had number 34 in the USA. Couldn't afford a dual rectifier at the time .Bought it before Marshall released it at 17 years old. Waited 6 months for it. Loved it. The only Marshall I ever bonded with.

I have an older DSL50 with the Voodoo Deluxe mod. Great amp

Don't the 40w have EL84s in them? Maybe I'm wrong...still a nice warm tube though. But a little different from 34s..I had an older DSL 50 and it sounded good when it worked..I think they've fixed that issue from the 90's though..

The new dsl40c has el34s. The old dsl401 had a quad of el84s. Had the dsl401, don't really miss it.

Good enough for Beck?......Good enough for anybody and everybody on this forum.

That is all.

I'd like an exemption from this Beck law...I'm just not a big fan, but even more important, his style may as well be Lawrence Welk it's so different from what I'm going for

Interested in seeing how steinfly likes this amp...

If you didn't like the 5150 III or JVM, I really can't see you liking this.
I don't think it is going to have anywhere near the thump of the EVH 50 watter and you had probs with that not having enough.
Maybe tastes have changed? Give it a try, can't hurt anything...
Aloha, Rob.

Yeah, I've been rocking one of the newer Vietnam made DSL's and I absolutely love it. I have never owned one of the JCM2000 DSL's but I've played plenty of them. In my opinion, the new DSL's are better than the old ones. Who cares if it's made in Vietnam? I'm not sure about the headshell but the internals of the new DSL line are certainly better built than the JCM2000 DSL's. My DSL100H isn't going anywhere. I'm not saying it is the best amp in the world (i.e shared EQ, etc.) but it still sounds damn good. The resonance control MADE this amp, the digital verb sounds good, and the powertube sockets are chassis mounted, rather than PCB mounted.

The heads that I heard were ok, but the combos were pretty lacking imo.

I have the same amp with the same mods. I've bought and sold a plethora of amps since buying this and it's still my #1.

A little bit of taste changing....with JamUp and the new interface for amp sims/plugins, I don't really need it to be an all in one solution. Mostly something to jam on when I feel like it. Traded a guitar I don't use anymore since I got the new 7 for it, and I can always run a modeler in the FX loop if I hate the tones. Figured it couldn't hurt to try, since I've never owned a Marshall before. :D

Nice man....glad to know there are a bunch of people that dig this...mostly just for at home jamming once in a while and outside jams with friends once or twice a month.

totally agree on Beck. The guy is super talented, but I just can't get into his style or music and yes I have tried what are considered his best albums.

As to the DSL, its nice to see Marshall finally put EL34's in the DSL40C combo, which generally gets pretty good reviews. I have always liked the UK made DSL heads. If I ever sold my silver jubilee to generate cash, I would probably get a DSL50 head to replace it.
