I used to run a Dual Recto and 5150 together in an older band that's now talking about getting back together. I don't want to carry all the shit around again. I'm looking for ideas of preamps that would pair together well, probably trying to spend no more than 500-600 on each preamp, then run into a stereo poweramp with at least 50 watts per side with 6L6s. Just talk about some of the rigs you've had and combinations you've liked. I'm thinking about doing something more classic sounding than the 5150/Recto rig, maybe a JMP1 and Rockmaster boosted. I had the E530 for awhile but it was so thin and lifeless, but I haven't had much more experience in the rack world.

I did it for awhile with a triaxis and an mp-1. Can sound massive. Was also a massive pain in the ass to make adjustments for room acoustics, etc. I'd stick with a single preamp

A Mesa/Boogie Studio and an ADA MP-1 would sound pretty killer together and would fit your budget.

I did a JMP-1 and an MP-1 and it rocked. Best I ever did was the JMP-1 and a ROCKMAN XPR both running into a Marshall EL84 20 / 20. Massive and punishing.

A great "budget" preamp is the Hafler Triple Giant. MP-1/JMP-1 are always good choices too.

Get a VHT 2/50/2, or 2/90/2, A rectifier preamp ( if you like the recto sound, they can be had for about 600), and a peavey rockmaster or engl E530...That would be the way I would go for sure!

Didn't read your whole thread, my bad...go for an mp-1/jmp-1 rig, that would be great, or maybe a triaxis?

I have with great results. I have run an X88 with a couple: triaxis, X99, Fish. If I could find an original CAE 3+ I would snag it and run that with my X88 into a VHT Classic in a heart beat. In fact I think I'll post a thread looking for one. :)

Just picked up a Rocktron Piranha yesterday and was blown away with it, played it all last night. What a great sounding preamp! This morning I integrated it with my triaxis and gsp1101 in a stereo hook-up. Holy cow! What a massive sound I am getting. I can see how it might be a pain to control live though but in my studio it's about the best sound I have ever had.

Another idea to throw out there.....

You could use an Axe-FX or POD HD PRO an use dual amp models. Pan one amp to one side, and a different amp model to the other side. Run that into a stereo poweramp and stereo cab or two cabs.
