Who's tried the Powerball II? Thoughts? How about the Fireball 100? I know one Mailman used to have one and I guess dug it for metal but not much else.

EDIT: Just for giggles

Tell you what Jim,
If I ever get a Chance to get another Invader 150 for a decent price.....I am going to snag it.
That was one of my all time Favorite amps!!!

Dont know much about the Invader 100's though. But that 150 was a GREAT Sounding amp all around!!

I owned a Powerball for about 2 years and almost didn't sell it. I don't like Engls for anything but modern metal and shreddy lead playing. I don't think much of them as far as clean tones go or even crunch for that matter. But damn are they fun to play and do the high gain thing really well.

Whats so special about the Invaders tone? I remember DerekB (where's that dude been?) Saying the Invader and SE amps were his favorte Engls and he should know, he used to be a dealer.

Jim

The Invader 150 had almost a Hot rod Marshall tone to in(channel 2) with that engl Flair.
Wasnt over the top compressed but more open sounding.
One of the few I regret selling.
It was a Damn near PERFECT tone.
I didnt care for the other channels that much thats why I ended up getting rid of it.
But Channel 2 and 4 were GREAT!!!
Judging from your videos and the tunes you play.....You would LOVE IT!!

The Blackmore is one of the best amps I've ever played.

The Blackmore still ranks in my top 3-4 amps. I also dig the Screamer but not enough to own it again.

I hated the Powerball .........and I also owned a Fireball 100 for a few days and it was WAY too compressed and dark/muffled.

Way back when I first heard Engl amps I got considerable time on both the Savge 120 and Powerball. I much preferred the Powerball. YMMV

Owned 2 Powerballs before and will probably get another one eventually.

I thought it was very versatile and can get some great tones. Like every amp out there, it all depends on the type of guitar wood, pickups, speakers, cabinet, etc.

I thought Eminence speakers sounds great and the ENGL Pro Cab (V30s) sounded the best. Sort of thin-sounding with Marshall cabinets.

I used mainly EMGs but thought it sounded great with Super Distortions and Hot Rails as well.

When I had a Powerball I used it with a Bogner Uber cab which was pretty nice. From what I've read Engls actually sound great with greenbacks. Makes sense... Engls are kinda sof in the mids and greenbacks are all midrange.

yeah...whatever happened to DerekB?

I bought my powerball from his rocksolidamps site and he was one of the nicest, most professional guys out there. Shipped me my amp in triple packaging and called me once a day to make sure it arrived ok.

Powerball seems to take a lot of grief around here, but I still really like mine. Ignore the high gain stuff, run a pedal into to the clean or crunch channel and it's bliss. I do remember, 8 years ago??? when the powerball was the talk of every other thread on some of the forums.

I was hell bent on ordering a Engl Se...the day I was gonna pull the trigger I stumbled onto Dar amps...I ordered a forza quattro. Engl..6 month warranty, bad customer service, hard to get parts..I was so set on it, those r all big turnoffs.coming from online, dealers and a couple techs.still se sounds amazing.

I had a Powerball but I didn't dig it. I recently tried the Steve Morse model and LOVED it!!

I had a Powerball, SE and Blackmore....I loved them all

Dude you remember Phil and DEAN BCR aka Shawn??? I went down to that first ampfest in Culpepper with my 5150II half stack. Thought my amp was pretty good. Heard Phils Powerball and I knew right away that the 5150 was gonna be sold. For the ultra high gain stuff the Engl amps are sweet. The Diezel Herbert is prolly the end-all-be-all, but for a decent price the Engl stuff is pretty sweet. I'm on a Jeff Loomis kick so the Engl stuff is on my radar.

I would murder a man for an Engl SE, but I'd settle for an Engl Fireball 100. The SE is my current dream amplifier, but of course that changes every week.

You ever try a Diezel Herbert??? That is the absolute best hig gainer I've tried and I've owned/played lots of them. Still the Engl stuff costs less and is a blast to play through.

Yup...that's exactly why I bought a Powerball myself bro. I owned that amp for 2 yrs and really enjoyed it. I'd take one over a Herbert any day of the week...but I'm not a Diezel fan

I've only heard the Herbert and SE through clips, but I've had the opportunity to try out the Fireball 100 and Invader 150. I've been impressed by Herbert clips, but there's just something to it that doesn't click with me. It could all change when I finally play one though.

I used to own the Steve Morse head, and I loved it, the high gain wasn't quite what I was after though. I also recently tried the Powerball II out and liked it.

I fully intend on picking up a Savage in the future
