I know the pearly gates sounds pretty good in a strat...but what about the screamin demon? I know it's actually a moderate output pickup....i also know not many people like the screamin demon...but i remember a friend having one in a guitar once and i liked it...but that was years ago...just wondering if anyone here likes it or has tried it

I did & did not like it at all. The Hotrails I had sounded much better so I put it back in and sold the SD.......

I'm one of the few people who actually like the Screamin Demon... Keep the 250k volume pot, as it will tame some of the highs, and makes the demon sound like a really pissed off PAF.

I recently put a cheap stock Epiphone bridge humbucker in my Strat and it surprisingly kicks major ass. In a LP it sounded terrible, but in my Strat it sounds like PAF on roids. Clear, crunchy and thick.
Only drawback is the pickup is a two conductor so position #2 on the selector doesn't work properly. But I don't need that spot anyway so no loss on my part.
That cheap humbucker just sounds badass in that Strat. If you have one in a drawer somewhere try it out.

I liked it, i tried it in a charvel strat and liked it.

It's a great pickup for aggressive PAF-like sounds...very similar to a Pearly Gates with more bottom. A lot of the dislike around it came from players expecting it to be somewhat similar to Lynch's go-to pickup prior to the Demon...the Distortion. In fact it was much different in both voicing and output which caused a lot of disappointment. It was voiced for Lynch's sig ESP guitar at the time (Kamikaze) which was a heavy, solid maple axe.

I had one in a squire strat back in the day. I thought it was really great for mid gain sparkle and nice overtones. Nice open sound but can be a little bright.

IMO great pup if you play at 70s rock/blues rock mid-gain levels and like complex overtones and like hearing chords ring out.

Pass on it if you want hot fluid gain and don't like to fight the guitar to get the juice out.
