Anybody using an AmpRx BrownBox?

Just got in the cheaper unit, the Brownie yesterday. Haven't put it through its paces yet. I run a variac set to 115vac at home for my vintage amps. I wanted something portable for when I took the amps on the road.

I also run a variac with a Mesa ta15. Like most el84 based amps it runs them hard. At 117vac compared to normal line for me at 124vac, I notice the amp runs cooler and sounds less strident. The biggest thing I notice with all the amps, is that by controlling the voltage my tone is much more consistent day to day.

Cool, I'll be interested to hear what you think of it

Been using the Brownie the last few days and have been pretty impressed. I brought it to use at Church this weekend for my Mesa TA-15 and ended up not needing it, since the line voltage was already at 120VAC. My voltage at home is very rarely that low, was running 124VAC over the weekend.

One thing I notice is that the voltage does drop when you turn on the amp. So some adjusting is required to get the voltage you want. I found I could dial in the voltage close enough to what I wanted, but not as close as a variac obviously.

Overall, I am very happy with the unit. Its small, lightweight, and easy to move.

but will it do the Brown Sound and grind up your plexi??!! This is what hundreds of people on this forum who are ready to get into another argument over VH1 want to know.....
