Anyhere here have a Marshall JCM800 2203X

Does anyone here have a Marshall JCM800 2203x reissue? How versatile do you find the amp overall? looking for feedback
 
I used mine to record a few times and it was definitely versatile, but I had to reset everything to get the tones. I guess I'm saying that live it certainly wouldn't be as versatile as a Plexi and pedals or a multi channel amp, but man what a great tone. I hit it with an SD-1 and kicked it off for semi gain stuff. Tough to get anything clean unless you go into the low input and brighten it up (can't do it on the fly). Put some reverb or delay in the loop (loop is just ok).

My opinion is it's a GREAT sounding amp, but it's tough to jump tones on the fly. :thumbsup:
 
why is it hard to use the low input? is the amp that hard overall to dial in?
 
I just mean you can't use it on the fly live. You have to unplug from the high input and plug in the low input. The low input itself sounds great with some pedals.

The amp cranked up with the preamp gain maxed through a 4x12 and a good guitar sounds KILLER. Hit it with a good overdrive pedal and it's equally as amazing. Great hard rock amp.

I don't play metal so I can't really comment on that. I did jam with a country guy about a year ago and he set one at low gain and he played his country licks and it sounded good as well. :thumbsup:
 
By the way, it really shouldn't take over a minute to dial in a great rock tone with a good JCM800. Pretty much "plug and play" amps.

My Triple Rectifier? That takes a while to dial in! :yes:
 
aha! i gotcha now :doh: . I have a TSL now which i plan to ditch, and only really use channel 1 or 2 on it. The amp would mainly be used at home. The loop is decent or really takes some work to get everything setup for it?

I have heard nothing but negative things about the TSL. Never played one myself. I'm pretty sure a good JCM800 would crush a TSL just from the negative reviews I've heard.

The loop is good, but not perfectly pristine. It works well and it's also bypassable if you don't want to use it. Great amp. :yes:

for a passable clean check out the HBE Paul Gilbert Detox pedal. So cool. Its an EQ that you use as a cut (like rolling down your guitar vol). But you can add bass/mids/treble back in to get a pretty good clean.

If you are going to mainly use it at home, you might want to pick up an attenuator as Marshalls like to be cranked. Have you thought about a Class5 or you do want the thump of the big iron amp?
 
The great thing about it is, it has a classic Marshall growl, not like many of the newer heads. It's versatile to the extent that it can crunch, and also take pedals very well to boost into high gain. Something else to consider is that there are many tried and true mods for adding a gain boost to this circuit, often switchable. What it lacks in features it makes up for in tone. Excels for hard rock. And heed blackba's advice, not a head for at home.
 
Find a used JVM210 on the used market for a steal, problem solved. Classic and vintage Marshall tones with a host of great modern features and youre good to go...
 
I really like the badass sound of the marshall + 4X12 sound. If I can fit it in my room, I would love to get a different one. I would want to buy new, so im limited to models in production. JVM's seemed nice, but not sure if i want that many bells and whistles in one amp. The 2203x just seemed like a nice simple amp but I think it will need to be cranked up higher than the JVM would need to be to sound good.
 
Sorry dumb question.. what's a 2203x ? Is it a new 800? If its anything like my 800, its loud as baalls

jcm 800 2203x is just the standard 100w reissue
