Anyone at NAMM try Friedman's Cab simulator box?

I'm looking for something that sounds pretty good for quiet practice / recording from an egnater MTS preamp and maybe some tube amps (i would need a load box i assume that didn't have one)? I'd like something that doesn't require a lot of computers/gear for easy use, sounds good and cheaper than the Two Notes stuff...

I don't think the Friedman toy was a load box, its just a box you can put between your amp and cab that has a speaker simulated out you could run to a board...

Suhr makes a cool load box but then you need a speaker sim...

Honestly the Two Notes Torpedo Live is a killer unit. I love mine and got it used for under $700. Other than that I'm not aware of too many other options.

cheaper than a TNL...
the AMT pangea or Lodigy epsi in both unit you can load free IR that you can download from internet.
and both units require a load box for safe use with a tube head.

Aiken Gold Brick.
Sounds similar to the Friedman

The Gold Brick is not a load, it is just a speaker emulator, so you will still need a load, preferably a reactive load, as they sound best.

The Suhr RL is good, but if you want to go on the cheap, you can sometimes find used Marshall Power Brakes for low money. The Power Brake has a great-sounding reactive load if you add one resistor to the circuit to tame the highs. If you decide to go that route, let me know and I'll tell you how to mod it with the resistor to make it sound good.

If you're really stuck on using your amp then you need a load box and IR's. Or you could buy a modeler...

Understood. I have one.
I just was comparing the Gold Brick to the Friedman box. I thought is was the same thing.

I have the Marshall SE-1, does that need this one resistor mod as well since I guess it uses the Power Brake guts with some speaker/mic emulation circuitry ?

I don't think I've heard of an SE-1. are you referring to the SE-100? If so, the SE-100 has a completely different circuit for the load, and it already has a resistor across the inductor to limit the high end, so you don't need to mod it.

So the Marshall Power Brake, going way back to one of the first readily available attenuators was a reactive load design?

I have the Friedman and love it. I also have every Palmer unit, Two-Notes Live, Red Box, IRs, etc. Friedman is as good or better for me than all of them. One of the best things is it just sounds good with no tweaking. Really there are only 2 options, and both work great. I really tired of going through IRS.

It has a 3dish mid crunch that is missing from a lot of emulators. Using it now with just an X88 pre to the board. Really sweet.

Yep.
