I see they ship to the US but are they legal to import with Gibson's Trademark rights?

Has anyone here purchased from Japan before?

Does the guitar get hung up in customs forever? My fear is shipping damage then what?

What are the import duties on say a $1,200.00 purchase.

I want a Lemon Drop LP with a flame top, if you have one to sell let me know.

Are there any music shops that import the Edwards and resell them in the US market?

I bought one years ago. Totally legal. Shipping is pretty expensive though.

Music shops reselling them is probably illegal. I recall paying around 100 dollars to get mine into the states back in '07 I think.

Yes and I paid no more than the guitar price + shipping (although that was pretty expensive being airmail from Japan.)

Yep no problems when I bought mine. I just had to pay $100 (had to write the check out to the postmaster for the customs fee) when the mailman dropped it off at the house. But I have heard people not having to pay the customs fee. As for the time it took to get here, I bought it on a Friday and got the guitar that Tuesday :D

I think that is the big no no. Gibson would sue the shit out of the store/person. It's ok for individuals to buy and import them, just not a store or someone importing them to sell.

How recent was your purchase?

Thanks for all the information! This makes a future purchase more plausible for me.

Same here. Bought mine used in 2013. Paid just over $100 in custom fees. Took about a week to get to the Chicago area.

I bought the guitar last year.

I assume both you guys got the hardshell case for the shipment? I can't imagine an LP in a gigbag coming from Japan EMS and surviving the trip.

Did you have the seller loosen the strings to reduce the pressure on the neck joint for shipment since LP's have so much stress at the nut?

I have played some newer Gibson LP's and they just didn't justify the prices. I have an older early 2000's Korean Epiphone LP that stands up to a lot of the current Gibson build qualities. I'm sure there are some nice ones but not 4000 to 5000 nice IMO. Hence the interest in the Edwards, I've not read anything bad really besides needing a setup.

A buddy of mine that used to post here bought a great one.

Threw some WCR Godwoods in there, and it just crushed.

Definitely a nice axe, at any price.

Bought mine in 08, just had to pay for postage on top of the cost of the guitar. No issues at all, however this was sent to Australia. They sent it in the softcover ESP gig bag, and detuned the strings, and packed it in the box with some extra foam, plastic bubble and another box. Not a blemish.

Bought one several years ago, great axe and it shipped with in a week to my surprise!!!!

They're great guitars but for $1200? You can buy killer used USA made Gibson LP's all day long in the $1500 range.

It is a great axe for the price and the workmanship on this is great!! I got a Custom style used and threw some Manlius Asphalts (A5) in it and it rocks!!
