If I sell enough stuff I also may try to get 50w EL34 or 6V6 for contrast, but I was just referring before to pure headroom/horsepower and punch, which I feel is what mainly distinguishes wizards from other amps and I try to play up amp’s inherently unique strengths up as much as I can
Hard to summarise too much in a few words but to clarify yes, the MC can do metal. We just found that there's better options for a big, modern sound. The MC is more in the Marshall camp (modded Jubilee really) than say the MTL, Uber Ultra, 5150 etc, so if metal is your primary thing you might find it's better suited to the classic kind than then modern.
Between the MC1 and MTL, the MC1 wins by more than a mile for me. Everything in the MTL I have heard is low mid focused and smaller sounding.
I keep seeing a lot of "mint" condition ones get listed although i recently asked Rick about a 6L6 MTL that's on reverb and turned out it left the factory as an EL34! So who knows what people are doing to theirs after they leave the factory
Yep. I'm the guy Matt sold it to. I sold it once I bought a Hell Razor. The MTL was a killer amp but the HR overlapped and did much more so I didn't see much reason in keeping both. However, I have kept my MCII because there's something about it that I enjoy quite a bit so it and the HR covers miles of ground.
Ah man if you have those two amps and you want an amazing rock amp then the MC is worth owning once in your life. Do it.
For what it’s worth, having had an mcii and hell razor within a few weeks of each other, the hell razor could do everything the mcii could do but the opposite was not true at all- the hell razor is better even for non modern metal applications in my opinion

I had a 1996 MC with C transformer and 2016 MTL with V transformers and much preferred the MTL. While it does have more low mid thickness, it’s still not a super low mid dominant amp the way a Recto or Uberschall is and it sounded a lot bigger and more robust in the room than that particular MC I had, but maybe the later MC’s or MCII’s would’ve held up better vs that MTL
In terms of just rawness I feel by nature my vintage Marshall’s or really any amps made before the ‘90’s will have the edge in being more raw/rough around the edges. Wizards are very raw for a non-vintage amp. Impressively close to vintage amps in that regard
For wizards more than many other amps the clips are limited and don’t seem to as accurately show how the amp is in person and imo not worth waiting a year or more for some decent clips to finally surface lol. Besides the opinions here maybe Rick can also advise what he thinks would be best for you want
I didn’t own any recording gear when I had my MTL or MC. I can try in a few weeks to make and PM you clips of the Hell Razor, but I suck at recording lol and hope I don’t do injustice to it or mislead about how the amp actually sounds

Yes! That’s the one, lol I sent Rick the S/N and his response was that it was a 2014 that left the factory as an EL34
It definitely got me leaning towards a new one instead of used…but you guys would buy that amp without issues?
