I just bought a couple quads of SED KT88's. They are pricey but they sound killer. I wanted to try them in my Splawn Nitro and my Mako Mak2 Dorado. I spent last night and part of the morning trying different power tubes in the Nitro. I tried JJ Kt88's, Ruby Kt88's, SED Kt88's, SED 6550's and Svetlana 6550's. I liked them all but I really liked the SED KT88's. The JJ's were my 2nd favorite in the KT88's category. JJ'a are a bit more compressed in comparison to the SED. Ruby's were nice and had a bit more bite. However, the clarity and overall tone was better with the SED's and the JJ's (I like to strum open chords to hear the notes ring). 6550's thickened up the Nitro a bit but I preferred the openness of KT88's in that amp. I thought the Svetlana's 6550's were nice but maybe a bit mushy.
Anyway, I read a lot of good things about the SED's but I never see mention of SED KT88's so I figured I should give them a shout out and say that I am impressed.
