I just bought a couple quads of SED KT88's. They are pricey but they sound killer. I wanted to try them in my Splawn Nitro and my Mako Mak2 Dorado. I spent last night and part of the morning trying different power tubes in the Nitro. I tried JJ Kt88's, Ruby Kt88's, SED Kt88's, SED 6550's and Svetlana 6550's. I liked them all but I really liked the SED KT88's. The JJ's were my 2nd favorite in the KT88's category. JJ'a are a bit more compressed in comparison to the SED. Ruby's were nice and had a bit more bite. However, the clarity and overall tone was better with the SED's and the JJ's (I like to strum open chords to hear the notes ring). 6550's thickened up the Nitro a bit but I preferred the openness of KT88's in that amp. I thought the Svetlana's 6550's were nice but maybe a bit mushy.

Anyway, I read a lot of good things about the SED's but I never see mention of SED KT88's so I figured I should give them a shout out and say that I am impressed.

Sweet! About how much does a quad of those run?

I've been running a pair of Gold Lion KT-88's in my Deliverance for over a year now (since the stock sovteks lost vacuum in two weeks  ) ....they have been rock solid and sound awesome but they weren't cheap.

I'll have to keep those SED's in mind.

I just bought a quartet of JJ KT88's today. I really wanted SED but couldn't justify spending $300 on the SED KT 88's vs. JJ's for $195. I also bought a pair of JJ KT88's and a pair of KT66's to put in my dual rectifier, should be interesting.

I got a set in my Electric Volume Unit. I did not buy them but the amp came to me with them. I love the sound of the amp and I wonder how much is due to those tubes.

$300 a quad? Where were you pricing them. They should be around $200 a quad. JJ's are great also. I have had them for over a year without any issues.

SED is awesome in general. Ive used their el34 and 6l6

I have not fallen in love with the SED 6L6 yet but I love their El34's, 6550's and KT88's.

I have a quad sitting on my Hydra right now and I've been waiting until I get some clips together for comparison to post, so I haven't given them a shot yet.

Anyone try the EH KT88s? Good? Bad?
Bad. James Peters of Peters Amplification ordered about 10 quads and 2 functioned properly.

I put a pair in my Sunn Spectrum II. The amp sounds great but I have other issue with it right now so I can't put it through a real work out. I can only get a few minutes out of it before blowing a fuse. I had a cap replaced and the big filter cap replaced but it's something else. My new tech is taking it back soon I hope.

I am running a pair of SED 6550s and a pair of SED KT88s in teh Evil Pumpkin currently. No other modern production power tube comes close to SED. I have their 6L6s in my Blackmore and their EL34s in my plexi.

6 tubes, They are going in my Herbert. Brain fart with the quartet.

Thanks for starting this thread. I need to get another set of KT88s. I was considering the EH's, but after reading this, I think I'll pass.

Looks like I'll be ponying up the extra dough for some SEDs.

I've got JJs in my Titan atm, no complaints, but I WANT the SEDs, in a BAD way..... also NEED a set of SED EL34s for my Marshall....or maybe I should have it modded for KT88s...hmmm. :D

If they are JJ KT88's I would leave them in there. They are my close 2nd favorite. They are slightly more compressed and maybe a slight bit warmer but they both do their thing well.

They are, just planning for when I need to replace them ;)

I had those tubes in my 2 channel dual rec and dug it alot. It gave the amp everything it needed imho.

Can't wait to hear it, should have my 2 channel back from my tech in a few days.

In my SigX I tried the stock Sovtek which did not give me enough headroom or handle palm muting at really loud volume, I tried SED's and I tried Shuguang KT88's. the Shuguang's were the best, Best headroom , Biggest sound and great reliability, the Shuguang is the same as Gold Lion. The SED's were Ok, but they did'nt handle as well. But if you are running 4 KT88's then SED is probably just fine, the SIG X only uses 2 tubes, so that's why I needed the one's with the most headroom etc. I think Shuguang are the best KT88.
