Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with X2Ns?

One of these Warriors of mine has dual X2N pickups in it. Part of me wants to keep them in there because along with these nice pieces of wood they build guitars out of, a lot of times they put figured wood on top of the pickups to complete the aesthetic of figured high end woods. This is a black walnut guitar with some sort of burl walnut pickup covers. So it fits the look, but I just have this love/hate relationship with these X2Ns. Saint Pablo Gilberto of Illinois loves these pickups, but I can't play like him. I'm a DiMarzio Bro for life, but I just end up not liking them more often than I do like them. I'm halfway considering pulling them, putting them in the case, and then trying out maybe a zebra or dubbel kreem Norton, Fred, Tone Zone, or something along those lines, and maybe another 36th Anniversary or PAF Pro of something in the neck. I have a spare zebra Evolution Bridge and I have one in a super heavy super strat. It's pretty hot too, but in a better way than these, at least to my ears.

Maybe it's because I'm always playing this guitar through my Katana, that even with a cool hotrodded Marshall patch, it's just too stinkin' digital and even with me turning the gain knob down, it never really lowers the amount of gain, just the volume. Maybe if I could play the pickups through a real amp, I'd like them more?

I always wanted to try the Liquifire but I got sick of buying pickups and doing swaps.

No one pickup does everything. No matter what you pick, there will be something it doesn't do well.

The idea is to have more than one guitar.

I like DiMarzio for passive; EMG 81/85 for active. I have a few Jackson Rhoads with Duncan Blackouts (AHB-1B, AHB-1N) actives which I like, too bad the Warriors don't get these since their both X-Series models that I have and like. I never tried Fishman Fluence which seem to be popular these days.

My Chuck Schuldiner Stealth has one pickup, an X2N in the bridge. Works great, but I wouldn't want one in the neck, nor do I want another guitar with them.

My fav DiMarzio's are the D Activator-X. I had a guitar years ago that had a set in them; more recently, I installed a set in my white ChIbanez PS guitar.

I've been considering a Super Distortion (bridge) and Super 2 (neck) for a Jackson Warrior.

I have a 2015 EBMM Majesty with the stock set of Illuminators which I like; but I have two newer Majesty guitars with Dreamcatcher (bridge) and Rainmaker (neck) which I like too. I haven't compared them side by side.

Needs a longer bed IMO
True, but you lose some of the offroad capability with a longer wheelbase so I guess it would depend on your specific needs. As @Geo said, no pickup does everything, lol.

I hate the Tone Zone. Big and bloated, no clarity. I wish Ibanez would stop putting them in everything. Their Fusion Edge is even more awful.
I really don't like any Dimarzios, aside from the 36th Anniversaries, and the Evolutions.

I hate def leppard but still think the Super Distortion is awesome.
