Haven't tried the Blues; I only suggested the OP maybe try them 'cause my brother swears by 'em.thenine":2dkmjude said:stiff? yeah, I agree. They're not too slinky feeling but not enough to drop a gauge tho.
no more stiff than Blue Steels I don't think.
Every time I've mentioned the stiffness of the NYXLs and suggested dropping a gauge in various forums, peeps have agreed. You're the first not to feel it's a difference worthy of a gauge drop, so I can't help but wonder if maybe you have stronger fingers than most?
Beyond Black's response is typical of those I spoke of:
Beyond Black":2dkmjude said:Totally agree. Definitely stiffer feeling strings. 10’s felt like 11’s, at least 10.5’s. I didn’t care for that at all. But they did sound good and stay in tune well, so I can see why they’re liked.Monkey Man":2dkmjude said:There's an elephant in the room with those 'though:
They're super-stiff when compared to other brands at the same gauges. I've recommended peeps go at least one full-point gauge down from their usual one when trying NYXLs, advice based on my brief experience with them a few years ago when they first appeared.
As for the OP's DR question, have you tried Pure Blues?

My brother has sworn by them for quite a few years now. He loves the tonal benefits and durability.
Yeah brother, they sure did sparkle. Kinda like when you switch from nickel to stainless-steel frets, to my ears at least. In fact, if I could have afforded to continue using them (way beyond my price range, unfortunately), I'd definitely try breaking them in a little before recording 'cause, whilst most of us insist on spanking-new strings for it, they sounded to me like they were new-new, IOW, one too many levels of new.
Impressive strings, for sure.
I haven't tried the Paradigms 'cause of the cost too, but IIRC Paul Gilbert did a tension-break test on YouTube not long after they came out and they won easily against a standard control (slinky maybe?).
