Does anyone else very occasionally have those days when you fire up your rig, plug in and everything just sounds bang on? I’ve been struggling lately with my EVH 5150 50w 6L6 Head and was considering at least a retube ( it’s 4 years old and still on its original tubes! ) but after today I’m not touching it!

...you just know it’ll sound rubbish tomorrow!

The beauty of signature guitar tube amps - they'll never cease to amaze you.

I find my enjoyment of an amp tone is directly related to how well I’m playing on any given day :dunno:

Plus 100 on this.

Plus my mood. BAC.... day off ...
Working. Lol
Everything is a factor for me.

I enjoy my tone every time I plug into any amp I own.

My technique may need time to get hot,but I am never unhappy with my sound. But I am obviously less picky than others when it comes to my sound. Tight and focused and I am cool.

My tone is killer every time I plug in. It’s that simple.

My rig sounds fantastic.

When other people play through it :aww:

Gotta admit, I’m pretty happy every time. Sometimes elated even. But with more than one amp if the feel of one is not floating your boat you go to another one. I always find one of my amps has what I need every time. A little better than the odds of success of Sex Panther...lol

I have a ton of amps. But the two that NEVER disappoint are my Marshall DSL40C with NOS preamp tubes and a WGS Invader speaker and my 1987xl head through a beater 2x12 with G12T-75s. Everything else has its good days and bad days, but those first two just slay every time, make me want to play for hours and sometimes make me want to sell everything else.

BTW, the DSL40C for sale in my signature is a second one.

Good tone days for me are when I'm playing well, when my picking is on point and my fingers feel fluid.

I'm AXE FX -> SS Power Amp -> 2x12 V30s and it sounds consistent everytime I turn it on.

So the only variable is my playing

For me it seems like it’s not as simple as how good my playing is. In fact when I have a “GTD”, it usually causes me to play simple riffs and chords (think Malcolm) and I just take in how awesome everything sounds. If I’m not feeling it after tweaking my amps I usually plug into my interface and pull up a modeler or just play unplugged and practice. I will say that I have the most good days with my 2555x and the least with my Mark IV.

Also, last summer it occurred to me that most of my best days happen to be very humid so maybe that’s a factor. This should stir up a good tone debate!
