Anyone ever use V30s with their Friedman Amps?

I was thinking about trying a Marshall cab with V30s for my Friedman Modded Marshall SLP Reissue. Anyone have any luck? Right now I'm going thru the GT12-75 speakers in my Marshall 4x12 and although it sounds ok, nothing mind blowing. I can't really afford Scumbacks right now, otherwise I'd get those.

Yes...Kind of. I am going through a 4x12 with V30/H30 Anniversary X and it's killer!! V30s alone arent as good from what I've heard but depends on what you're going for. In the quiet of my basement, I love the G1280s. In a band mix, the V30s seem to work really well.

its against the law. Jim will kill you.

LOL!!! Dang, I guess I'll figure out a way to get the Scumbacks. :)

Try 2 V30's in an x pattern first, mine sounds pretty Damn good

Steve Stevens was using V30s on this recent Idol tour.

I've been experimenting with some different combos lately. Not that anything I've had isn't good it's just when you track record after record you want things to change up and sound different. We spent the morning running my '71 Super Tremolo with the KS through a bunch of cabs and really dug the Bogner Twin Jet FL V30, G75 X pattern. The G75s are very dark and ominous sounding alone but they tame the V30 cack and vice versa the V30s brighten and edge up the G75. Great blend. So heavy yet present and articulate. I really want to try some H30s I've heard good things about them.

I'll be trying trying those tomorrow. Thing is I hear they take a while to break in.

I have all H30's in the cabs and like them.

I play my Marsha through an oversized Mesa 4x12 with well broken in V30s and a Mesa traditional 4x12 with V30s and EVM12Ls. Both cabs sound awesome with the Marsha! I would still like to try out the Scumbacks to see how they compare.

I thought he was a Scumback user?

He is, but this last tour he said the V30s just sounded better for what he was doing. The cabinets were Scumback cabs, but they were loaded with some of his old V30s.

I recently used my KS with a V30 Marshall 2x12 for a gig and it sounded great! On its own I think my 4x12 with 65's is better, but in a mix the V30's worked well.

I have a V30 loaded 412 that sounds great with my KS modded Metro-Plexi. I like mids, and it has them in spades

Thanks everyone for the replies!!! (BTW Zachman, miss you brah!). Has anyone owned a 4x12 with the standard G12-75s in it? I'm just curious what you gain/lose going from the G12-75 to the V30s? Which speaker is more harsh?

It really just depends on the cab. I have a Marshall Silver anniversary 4x12 loaded with the original Celestion 75s and it's one of the best cabinets I have. It sounds amazing. . .very 'un' what people assume 75s should sound like.

I use the Marsha with a v30 cab.. If I keep my presence around 11o clock it is killer.. It can just get a tad to bright for my tastes with the pres. above noon with the v30s.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the new Scumback J75's were made for/with Steve.

I love that combination, here is a old clip I made of my Friedman with an older Marshall V30 cab

Hey Marshall Law, thanks for posting that. I'll have to listen later on my laptop since my soundcard is not working. :)
