Thinking about picking up a JCA20H and giving it a shot. Wouldn't mind trying the 50 as it has a loop but i'm trying to find something that I don't have to turn up so loud to get things going. Anyone gigging one or more of these JCA20h's and having good luck?

There will a 20H with loop and a second channel, Randy. My guess is that Doug will launch it in two weeks @ Frankfurt MM Fair.

Excellent! I hope they release it soon , would love to try it.

its called the jca22h, im also waiting for it to come out. I want to get one, I played the JCA20H with a 1x12 cab and it sounded really good, but im still considering the 50w head too

I would go with the 50w if I knew I could get a decent tone at low volumes. And I don't mean bedroom volume, I mean reasonable gig volume.

The thought of a smaller head and a 2x12 or 4x12 is appealing though. Especially at 3am on the load out lol!

I'm very interested in hearing a comparison between the JCA22 and a Freidman modded JCA20. With the extra gain added to the 22, they might be quite similar I think.

I have a Jet city 20watt combo. Never gigged with it, but I think it'd work out pretty good. Its got volume, and even the single speaker in the cabinet seems to fill up a room nicely. My only concern would be playing with another guitar player, not sure it would cut through the mix.

i've been gigging with the jca2112 since january. most of the clubs we play in are of the 50 to 100 seat variety. we aren't overly loud. typically we're using a pair of 1x15's on sticks at 400 watts for pa. i have no problem hearing myself with the master at 4 or above. the sweet spot seems to be between 4 and 6. below that it gets thin. if we mike the drummer it's usually just the kick or sometimes the kick and snare. i've had no problems with it cutting through the mix. i just use pedals for solo boost and it sings nicely. i'll admit i didn't think 20 watts was going to be enough.. but was quite surprised at how loud it is. i haven't felt the need to try it with a 4x12 cab yet.. but i have no doubt it would push it nicely.
if head room is a concern because you need to play at higher volume levels.. need a loop.. and want channel switching rather than using pedals for solo boost i'd take the step up to the 50 watter.
the nice thing about the 20 is that it's loud enough to gig small clubs and still sounds good at bedroom levels.
i may wind up checking out a 50 at some point.. but i'm waiting for the jet direct and the flood to be released first.

I have a 50H that has now been modded. It toured with Ax7 before I got it. It sounds good at low volumes and it gets loud. You won't have problems with gig volumes using the 50H. It also is smaller and light weight in comparison to my other heads so that part is cool too.

Laura do you happen to know what mods were performed on the amp?

Mine was stock when I got it. O'Rourke did a depth mod, mid sweep, boost switch (mild, normal and wild) as well as somethings to smooth it out a bit. He also completely hot-rodded the 50H that he got as well. He could better elaborate on the mods.

I did weekly over the summer. Worked great. Sounded awesome and no problems
