anyone have an amp that nails this?

Tune to B and play through an amp with a little bit of saturation or fizz
I probably could but I am only tuned to Eb these days :aww:
 
Warhead X2 designed by Egnater for Dimebag - Juggernaut's got one and it can nail that tone easily.

Only problem is that there were a limited number made alltogether because it was before he went to krank. thats the first amplifier that comes to mind for that tone.

5150 original with the iron changed could get there. Fortin Natas. DAR FBM100H could definately do it. but the Warhead would get you the closest IMHO.
 
my cali mod gets pretty close but it is missing something, maybe switch it over to 6l6.
i wonder how close the mak 4 will get? herbert?

mako is too loose in its tone structure to even remotely get close - what i mean is that its possible overkill and would add too much. herbert is too compressed and has too much gain, but could be possible if you had someone with alot of mic's to try and with possible polishing in the studio. herbert I's are excellent in the studio but suck ass live, since you're talking about recorded tone then no doubt its possibly close - the warhead X2 would get you closer IMHO.
 
i have a couple of X2's (fanatic), and though the parametric midrange will get all sorts of sounds i doubt that's what we are looking for here.

modded marshall, boosted, v30's tuned to X-flat. juggy told me F.F's marshall was modded looking for that early VH tone.

for live, i would suggest an ISP vector guitar sub. but i suggest all the time that for anyone playing brootalz tuned down low.
 
actually there isnt a ton of gain on the guitars. i know he used some kind of boost for this tone as well, possible an ibanez pedal (could be wrong here, its been a while) and i think it was a solid state head. A lot of the thick distortion is actually the bass.

Dino's tone was fuckin sick in that video. So much more crunchy, thicker and growly compared to the whole rest of the video.
 
i loved that album and his tone sounds HUGE in that video.

i remember reading after obsolete he switched to line 6 for recording Digimortal
I also remember a quote from him around that time saying something to effect of him being excited because he could switch to a clean sound and he couldn't do that before cause he ran an extensively modded marshall.
according to what was posted above, looks like modded marshall is the way to go!
 
I think a jcm 900 slx may be pretty close. Probably have to eq to get the low end tight.

yeah my slx is pretty close. I havnt played it with my drop a guitar yet. but i am guessing it would be hte cheapest way to get there.

Golub said he was the one that did the Crunch mod for Dino but Pull bass boost and built in noise gate description, all points to the Metalhead mod, like this one:

6550 might be a better choice as that is what Dino had loaded in his. If you had the thump and hair switch on your Cali, that would bring you closer as well.

Yeah I need to send it back to you. I just have a hard time letting it go for very long. What needs to be changed to run 6550's?
I need the thump and hair done. Any other new cali mod tweaks I don't have?

A far as super low tuned metal tones are concerned, I think Dino's Marshall tone is still the pinnacle almost 20 years later.

A tip : he used very thin strings given his tuning. 11-50 for B tuning. Thin strings = more edge and crunch.

so have you been inside a metalhead? Anything you can share about them or were they just a hacked up mess.
