Who is this "popular builder" who you haven't heard a good clip from? Just curious what you think is poor tone or a builder with no ear for tone....

Just out of curiosity... if he built an amp that was more towards what you go for tone wise would you put your hard earned money down for one of his amps or would you put your money elsewhere?
I would not, because I could build one myself, for pennies on the dollar.

Say you didn't build our own amps.... would you buy one from Billy?
I would need to inspect one first. I stated from the beginning... I'd love to inspect one, but that's not going to happen. You know I don't mind rectifying issues. I did it with three Cornford amplifiers, only because I had no other alternative. Some of those builds were less then stellar.

While one the subject, I just rebuilt my RK100 back to stock! I used Takman brand resistors in the biasing circuit, and PI plates for ensured stability. I also used Kewame carbon film stoppers, vs Xicon. All values are original. What do you think of the McMurdo tube sockets? Took weeks to secure those from England.

Someone accused me of aiding in the ruining of this forum... If telling the truth is ruining this forum, I'm nowhere near through.

A quote from George at Metro who in my experience has been a credible person....

BB, you made some very big claims with your first post on this thread. So matter of fact, and also derogatory to others who have done similar, that it begs for you to "put up or shut up". The level of tech ability and combined amp business experience on this forum is extremely high. You can't possible expect us to write off our life's work as inferior just because you come here and slam it and/or call us all rip off artists. Really, think about that.

Seems to me to be bad mouthing some amp modders and boutique builders including Metro and Friedman in these threads. Also given the fact that I highly doubt Billy's very real reputation for running his mouth about other builders is a made up story from some online cabal out out to get him... there is more than these examples.

Honestly I don't know about how his amps play and sound since I've never played one and clips are useless. But given what I've personally read of his posts and pics of his "work" I'd never give him a dime. I don't care if he made an amp that sounded like tone from on high.

Fact is the dude acts like an ass hat and his work looks like shit inside and out. If me saying that is slander then so be it..... but in reality it's not.

Fuck me I did not know all of this was gonna happen My Bad. FWIW the cup holder is wicked. Please continue. I will be right over here.

You forgot the lightening bolts and gold knobs...makes the amp if you ask me...

Nice work.

However not sure why you have in the past suggested people should ignore or not put much weight in all the stuff that is out there about BB when you aren't obviously willing to do the same. You said you wouldn't buy one without "going through one". Pretty telling.

I want to see one up-close out of curiosity, not because I'm looking to buy one. I might take issue with some things, but it's in my nature to be meticulous. By example, I replaced a fully installed 8 pin tube socket, merely because it had a scratch on the bottom of the housing.

Im sorry but the cup holder........oh never mind......

You know how I know you're gay?........

If I wasn't still knee deep in recovery I'd go look at the amp. Unfortunately I cannot drive yet. LP Freak, if you do buy it, stop over on the way back home so I can play through it.. :D :D

Mike!

This is right in our backyard. I will pick you up to go and try this fucker out. I will jam through it and you can be on standby with the fire extinguisher. All I ask is, if the flames hit me first? Spray me down then if you want, the amp :D !

Looking at that one on CL I'm thinking that metal cab handle in the top of that thing must get nice and toasty if you run the amp hard for a few hours. Brilliant I tell ya, brilliant! I'm also certain that plastic cup holder in the top will keep your coffee nice and hot...your beer, hmmn....? Sure it wont warp or melt over time either

Always tons of replys on BB threads.
If it were my call, I'd say that you guys actually like those amps, just can't bring yourselves to buy one.

Personaly, my 5153 50 watt is more than good enough.
