Man, I can't get this damn thing to work for me. I run a hybrid setup with no issues in and out of my DAW but this just won't work for me. I see signal go out, but I get no volume showing on the meters back in. I can hear distorted signal though. What am I missing? Seems like total noobz can figure it out but I just can't. If you can, tell me what I am doing. Here is how I am set up:

Reaper > MOTU AO convert to audio Line out 1-16 channels into my Ramsa console.
Last 8 channels from MOTU are connected by DB25 to my Radial 500 series 6 pack (Channels 17-22)
Master Send L/R in Reaper goes to channel 23/24 on the Radial and those feed my monitors or headphones.

So all this works great. I use the inserts on my console and like the option to listen through console some days and other days to work just in Reaper. I like to go into reaper and listen there if setting tracks up, quickly monitoring plugins, creating bus groups, or just don't want the console involved. What I want to do with Reainsert though, is use those 6 channels sitting in my hardware rack on different tracks. So let's take my snare for example.

Say my snare is assigned channel 2 in reaper. I want to run it through a compressor in bank 2 of my radial rack which = output 18 on the Motu.
I have it coming back in on my Audient ASP 1-8 tracks for conversion and that is wired 1 for 1 in the radial chassis so 2 comes back in on channel 2 of the daw.

How the hell do i get this POS Reainsert to work??

I have it set to go out on 18 L ( because it is a mono signal) & come back in on 2 L. Why wouldn't this thing work and show me vol on send and return?? 18 is my physical path out to the radial unit. How can this thing not work. If you guys have ideas, I'm all ears.

I've literally never had it NOT work - i would suggest theres something going on in the I/O settings for reaper.

So does my explanation make sense and sound like there us no reason why it shouldn't work? What the hell...I'm going crazy. Just tried it from a fresh track and I can't get it to come back. See it leaving on the out and sweet nothing in the return. I wonder if it is my radial rack or my console. I don't have any of the inserts from my console patched into spot 2 on that rack so who knows. I'm of to go waste hours on the net to see if I can't solve it.

SOLVED! You were right. I/O/. The MOTU routing editor is a total mess and makes no sense. I had to mess around and read the manual until I got it. Apparently I am not the only one though, nobody likes their routing software interface. It's ridiculously overcomplicated even though it makes sense to the company. Now the only thing to do is to account for latency due to conversion... I can't see how this works in a mix though where there is a slight delay. Do you mess with it in solo, then print it and adjust time in the mix?

I don't think you would need to do much more than the usual latency test and adjustment you would do with any interface.

Yes have to play with this. For some reason it works in one project and won't work back in another.. but that aside, latency is the issue, thanks for the vid. Honestly, working with hardware gear is much easier as an insert through my console. No messing around, straight in, monitor on way out with rest of mix. Kenny G has great vids though. He talks funny but I can deal with it because he delivers!
