Well, I guess its all opinion, there are some bad cabs out there, but a lot of marshall and marshall type cabs being used to record and play live.Im looking at the specs on other cabs, what is really being done diff, except a lil size added? mills adds a special baffle ,but what is in a diezel cab for 1700 bucks thats going to be better than, " X " brand?
Exactly right. I don't think I've every owned a bad sounding cab...whether it be a Splawn, Boogie, Peavey, Orange, Marshall or Mojave. In fact when I was settling on my last amp I ran it through various 4x12's including the above mentioned Bogner and my fav cab was an little bit older Marshall 4x12B with Greenbacks...so I bought it, saved a ton of money. Got another great deal on a slightly used Marshall 4x12 slant w/ 75's and I bought that as well...and it sounds great as well and I sold the Splawn.
Now that's just me, my opinion. Bogner are incredible cabs, no doubt but all the cabs I've owned or borrowed have been good cabs. However the single best cab I have ever owned...where it literally made me sit back and go damn, was the Mojave 4x12 with GH30's. Unfortunatley for me I lost that cab along with my whole rig along with my Splawn QR in a fire several years back. Since I was replacing the QR I just decided to get a matching Splawn cab...w/GH30's. Great cab but I preferred the Mojave. Long story short when I switched to Marshall amps, the Marshall cabs sounded just as good as anything I tried so it made my choice easier, and since I prefer matching gear it was a no brainer. I'd still like to buy another Mojave one day but I'm fine right now.
For me, if I was cab hunting...I'd would check out the Mills. Mainly because what they are doing is different than other manufacturers...most of which are basing they're design off a Marshall. I would also check out Stone Age because that's all John does...hand builds cabinents and those Beast cabs look interesting. And my personal recommendation the Mojave 4x12.
Then again IMO, you can't go wrong with Marshalls, Bogners, VHT's or the new 5150 cabs. All sound great to my ears.
And if you really want to spend the dough ala Diezel, check out the Kerry Wright cabs.
As an aside, I don't know if Mojave makes they're cabs or sub contracts them out ala Bogner, CAA etc... May even be the same guy. One thing I found very interesting on the Mojave 4x12 was it did not have a center post and yet did not woof out or vibrate.
