Hi guys, new to this forum!

I'm looking to get a new setup for my live playing, and very tempted in going the rack mount route, been toying with getting an Enlg E530 preamp but someone suggested the ElevenRack was i was umming and ahhing about saving up for an AxeFx, Anyone had any live experience with this? I predominantly play heavy metal/death metal, so the lead/gain tones need to sound killer! I know at the end of the day its digital and not going to sound as good as the real thing, But need to know what people think. I recently tried an HD500 and found the hi gain patches on that to be utter rubbish!
Any help would be great

thanks

I use an Axe-Fx live and use the Eleven rack in my studio. I would have no problems with using the Eleven live. Both units are fantastic. The firmware update for the Eleven kicks ass too!

Both of these blow the Line 6 stuff away.

Good luck.

I had both. Death Metal? I don't know that the 11R is the best for that, but that's up for debate. However, I think the interface for the 11R is much more user friendly. I couldn't do much with the Axe from the front, and the editor didn't like to talk to my computer. I still can't believe they didn't have a USB port for the Axe...wow... Anyway, the Axe is the tweaker's ultimate tool for sure. Way deeper than the 11R. BUT - I'm more of a plug & play guy, so the Axe was frustrating for me.

They both sounded very good "live" - through a Rocktron Velocity 300 >>> Marshall 1960B cab. I'll give the edge to the Axe, but that's because of the amps I had available - the Shiva being my favorite. I didn't care for either through monitors. I have come to the conclusion that I don't like anything through monitors. "Live" or nothing.

I have also had the Line 6 Pod HD300. Nice, but ended up going back to the store. The amp models were not what I would usually use. I went back to a Spider Valve MK II head, and a Pod X3 for when I get bored.

As to those who continually bash Line 6, I've been using it for years. It's all about spending time with it to get the best out of it. I've gotten tone compliments from lots of people who play some damn nice gear. Of course my playing still sucks, but I do have good tone... ;) Is L6 as good as 11R & Axe? For 1/3 the price of the 11R and 1/6 the price of the Axe, I won't complain.

If you the only guitarist in your band, go with the AxeFX. It sounds more amplike than the 11R. BUT, the 11R tends to have more, for lack of a better term, projection....it just seems to fill the room more. This is from a direct comparison of the two units FRFR, but to be fair the setup was dialed in to the 11R, and there was no time to tweak or inspect the AxeFXs settings.

If you have another guitarist in the band, I think the 11R will have a better chance of competing with it in terms of being heard, but it's not going to sound as good as the AxeFX.

The Tape delay and Plexi are the 2 things that shines in the 11R. I had mine before the new update so I cant say how it is now. Recording interface is cool and I liked the knobs on the front for control. Im not sure about it doing "Metal", not really my playing style. For the price its good but since owning both the 11R and Axe-FX standard and Ultra, I would go with an Axe standard first. I know the Axe can do all styles were as "I" couldnt seem to get as much out of the 11R as others seem to.

Thanks to all who've replied! Definatley some stuff to think about..
Megamike, Thats interesting, does it do metal "Live" well? or just studio?

Another question is, if i do use this for recording i probably won't be using pro tools...Cubase is my baby and it's taken me years to just scratch the surface with it, wouldnt want to start again! Do you NEED to use PT for it to function properly?

I got mine to work with Garage Band so I think it should work with most recording programs now.

Ok brilliant. cheers!
Megamike another Q for you, do you have any samples of recordings you've done? Just want to be 100% about the metal side of it

I've had my 11R for almost a year now. I even just recently sold my Diezel Herbert because I really no longer needed it. I'm not playing live as much any further and don't have that need. The 11r is awesome and with the new expansion pack it is even better. I like it because of it's ease of use, great sound and it is my interface for my DAW as well.

Live, the 11R into an EV powered wedge is just plain awesome!

Cheers PBGas, i presume having a Diezel you play some hi gain stuff? :)
