Anyone here own or tried the Friedman Butterslax?

Friedman's priciest amp but you almost never hear about it. Youtube demos sound phenomenal IMO. If you've owned or tried it, give up the goods- what did you like or dislike about it?

I liked the one I owned more than most other Friedman’s. It sounded more aggressive, greasy and higher gain than other Friedman’s, but for my taste still ultimately had the same tonal limitations as the others and imo just didn’t fare too well vs the Cameron modded Marshall’s & Wizards I had at the time, so I sold it

Mmm, greasy

From the demos it seems like it has this tight, but slightly loose on the bottom quality. And more hair than your typical modded Marshall style amp.

Yes and more hairy than other Friedman’s, but vs the Cameron modded Marshall’s & Wizards I had at the time they were for sure hairier than the Butterslax and made the Butterslax comparatively sound smooth, tame and also lacking some definition and solidity to the notes for fast palm mute type riffing, but it’s hard to compete with wizards for that. In many ways, I think my original version Uberschall is like a much better Butterslax, but a hard amp to come by sadly that got neutered in later revisions

I enjoyed mine for the 2 years I had it. Heavy, and thick, nice harmonic distortion. Ultimately I just wanted something tighter and it didn’t take boosts well if you wanted it to tighten up. Was already pretty compressed. Would’ve been a keeper 100% if it did.

The BE 100 deluxe kinda cannibalized the slax. Not having the ability to turn the Sat off would annoy me for sure. But it was made to Bill’s taste so it is what it is.

The Deluxe is more versatile for sure, but I don’t remember it quite having the same grease, bottom end or sounding as metal as the slax. I know a bunch of guys that hated the slax. I liked it when I had it, but just felt other amps of mine sent it packing for what it did. I think Dave said on paper the slax is very close to the JJ with just a few changes that make it more metal/heavier sounding

I have the Butterslax and matching 212/215 cab. Its not my favorite amp, but it is my favorite amp for some things.

Compared to my Buxom betty, obviously there is no comparison, Betty is clean and Butter ain't... That said, I have a Diezel VH4 pedal, a BE pedal, an SLO pedal and a host of others. Betty with a dirt box sounds great, still doesn't sound like the Slax... And while Slax can't get clean like Betty, it can get clean enough, with single coils, to do what I want.

Compared to my JJ100, again JJ has more "Clean" but its clean isn't exactly clean either. Comparing gain channels, the slax is tighter, with a much faster attack than the JJ. Its nice to have a true third channel. My JJ is modded for footswitchable JBE mode and volume. Its close to a three channel amp, but I dont have the gain control mod so channel 2 is already "high gain" to get JBE mode where I want. Slax lets me have a true "mid gain" on channel 2 with "high gain" on channel 3.

I love what it does in my rig as I blend it in with my other two amps, it adds something neither of my other amps has so it has a functional purpose. If I had my druthers, I wish the sat switch was footswitchable on channel 1 to make it mimic a 4 channel amp and get closer to a "clean" tone on channel 1.

?. Here in Belgium and Germany a Butterslax costs 4000 Euro and a BE 100 Deluxe is 4750 Euro..

True. I don’t think I’ve priced Friedman’s since before the Deluxes came out.
