I came across some 'in-studio' youtube videos of this band several years ago when I was searching for Bogner Ecstasy clips. Always meant to check out an album but forgot. I previewed their 2010 release on iTunes yesterday and I really dig it. They fall somewhere between progressive rock/metal like Dream Theater and more mainstream U.S. bands. I dig most of the music and the guitar tones are just great. Looks like he used 101b, Road King and JVM.
Not bad , I would have to hear more as I usually don't dig progressive bands. Guitar player was tasty I thought. Singer had some pretty good lines going on.
I'd rather listen to him than Myles Kennedy
edit...Ok, so went and found the video of the song they are working on in that studio diary. Weirdly enough his lead tone wasn't nearly as nice as in the diary video and during the diary video I was thinking the bass player's action was way too low, choking out his notes. I wondered if it would translate into the recording and sure enough, it did. Overall not bad but not super memorable. They're definitely more on the "American modern FM" side of things than progressive I would say.
no but thanks for reminding me of disarmonia mundi. they're swedish so it popped back in my head. used to LOVE this band. I think I read somewhere that everything is written/recorded/produced by like 1 or 2 guys.
actually i think this is an italian band now that i think about it. too lazy to google.
that's because all you are hearing is the play back from the studio monitors while he overdubs/tracks. The actual speaker cabinet is in another room or they're using a load box and sims.
It really comes down to whether or not you have the space. In a proper studio, the cabs are isolated in another room (which is most likely soundproofed) and the amp heads are in the control room for the engineer/players to dial in.
Another much cheaper way to do this is to buy an iso cab or build a DIY room or booth to isolate the cab's volume. Pete Thorn recorded his cranked amps into cabs located in his closet for years. Just get creative.
