It's not bad. It's a loose amp, it has cool mids & (for me) flabby low end. While it sounds pretty good, better with les pauls than anything else IMO, it never did really impress me with anything.
If I were you I'd keep the rectro, although orange is definitely a lot more versatile.
I havent used my recto since last nov. running a randall mts rig at the moment. Im just bored with the recto sound (for now) and looking for something new. my concern with the orange is in the lowend - does it have any? Loose would kinda be cool for me. I dont really need a tight metal amp - my randall covers that.
Well, I definitely wouldn't call it thin, it's alright, but don't get your hopes up for something super cool. With a 4x12 you should be fine. That's actually why I preferred LPs with it.
The Rocker 30 has EL34's and one less gain stage than the Rockerverb 50/100. I had a Rockerverb 50 which use 4 6V6 power amp tubes. Also, the Rocker 30 has no effects loop or reverb, if that is an issue for you.
The RV50 would get to old school metal, but wasn't tight enough for modern metal if that is what you are into. The gain channel had an incredible range and responded well to being boosted. The RV50 was a dark amp and in a band situation it had a tendency to get buried a bit when put up against a mark IV. The RV50 was a solid amp, and had a unique voice. The Orange Rocker's seem to be one of those you either love them or hate them amps. I liked mine, but decided to move on to a Vox AC50CPH....
The Rocker 30 can get pretty flubby with the bass control up,but it's pretty tight and has a good amount of mids,it can throw some serious thick open sounding leads and sustains pretty good with the gain cranking, cool ass amp,my buddies has the Mercury transformers, that said,I picked up a Rockerverb 100 and have been pretty happy except for the fucking neighbors calling the police on me
I had one for awhile. Cool amp but inherently limited. Good if you're after a classic rock sort of vibe. They're voiced very much like a Marshall, only darker/smoother. At 30w it doesn't really have a clean channel. Once you're on par with a drummer the clean channel takes on an AC/DC kind of vibe and the dirty channel sounds like it needs more headroom unless you only intend on using it for lead or keep the gain very low for rhythm.
Cool amps on their own. I owned this and an RV50 and I found both fell short for me when playing with others. I'd recommend either one if you're after a classic sort of tone but I'd recommend the RV50 due to it's improved headroom and more flexible options. The darker voicing will put you in conflict with other dark amps and make it hard to cut through brighter ones.
We have a have Rocker 30 and Rockerverb 50 at the studio. Both really good, I've kind of had a love/hate relationship with the R30 but lately it's been doing pretty good on tracks. If you're a metal shredder dude it ain't the amp. Middle of the road to moderate heavy rock is its best suit.
It appears good for BuckCherry stuff.
I'm not a shredder ; could they work for 80/90s had rock metal like Crue, Skid Row, Whitesnake, Lynch Mob/Dokken, Roth-era VH?
Rockerverb 50 or Rockerverb 100 for shits and giggles?
Not the Rocker30?
You really have to try for yourself, Orange amps are very specific sounding in the md and upper mid range. They don't always work, you'd have to see for yourself. If I was stuck on an island and had only 1 amp it would not be an Orange. It's a great weapon when it works.
I know, James, you are correct. But there are no dealers near me.
I have a crapload of Soldano gear (SLOs, X99-Sm100r, X88r-VHT 2150 and a Lucky 13 head that the Seattle boys currently are modifying to augment the gain on the OD channel) and a 65 Fender BFSR. I have a 5150 combo in my home office for wanking/practicing.
Just thinking about another amp for absolutely no good reason at all.
Love the Rock30.
I actually prefer the R30 to the 2 Rockerverbs. They should remove the reverb on the 50W and 100W and make them all "Rocker's".
Something about the reverb in the circuit that affects the tone, imo.
