Anyone move the loop on their SLO?

Anyone move the loop on their SLO? If so, did it affect the sound? I am considering sending it to Dave Friedman.

I bought a BadCat Unleash which is basically an SS version of the Power Station, but it just changed the tone too much as the SLO Power section has a lot to do with the sound also.

I just ordered and recieved a Suhr Minimix 2 which is supposed to help the SLO loop a lot

As far as I know the Minimix just makes it a parallel loop, so it can´t help with the two major issues that are specific for the SLO loop; that it runs too hot for most pedals and is pre-EQ in the circuit. The whole thing will probably sound better, though, just by virtue of not running the dry tone through any FX.

I have moved the loop on both of the SLO's I have owned...

I moved the loop "right out the door" along with both amps eventually...

Extremely killer amps, and I know many are satisfied with their solutions they are using for the loop issue.

Unfortunately for me after trying many suggestions I'm just too picky and was never satisfied with modulation effects in the loop with gain.

I spent a ton of money on things trying this and that too, but was told that the loop is in a certain place in the tone stack and no gizmo or gadget you stick in the loop is going to change that reality except for moving it.

FWIW... If your picky like me, Wet/Dry is your very best option with that amp stock IMO.

Or unless you get someone like Dave Friedman to put the loop post master (or where ever it should be)...

Someone just sold an SLO on this forum not too long ago that Dave did his magic on and it was supposed to have been just awesome sounding!

Fx loops alter the tone even when they're not used. Even the vaunted metro loop changes tone slightly. So if you move the loop in an SLO it does change the tone. So wet/dry is the way to go. And I've heard from people that say the best SLO they've ever heard was one without a loop. So even if you move it you're gonna lose some mojo. I also had a Bad Cat but it is solid state reamping so it took away something from the Cameron I had...wet/dry or Fryette power station are good options.

What's the mod going to do? Move the two stages (send and receive) and adjust the levels or add additional buffering for the loop.

My two cents is I wouldn't do it. You'll have a different amp afterwards.

I have a 90 Loopless SLO and I'm contemplating adding a Metroloop. The Metroloop is probably going in the SLO or Grease Monkey. Haven't decided. My SLO has one stage less than an SLO with a loop.

I think so, there have been a few for sale that I've seen that came without one. Honestly, call Soldano and chances are you'll talk with Mike himself. The first SLO I had was popping a fuse 2 hrs after I got it....called Soldano and Mike called me back within 30 min ....very accessible and a cool guy to chat with. Ended up being power tubes.

Keep the SLO stock! That older SLO is a classic and will diminish the value if you mod it outside of Soldano.

Keep the SLO stock! That older SLO is a classic and will diminish the value if you mod it outside of Soldano.

I'm not modding the chassis. The chassis has the jack cutouts for the Send and Receive. I would mod the Metroloop Board to work with existing design. Concerning diminished value, I'm sensitive to that, but amps are for playing. If adding one more cutout makes it more playable then I'll careful determine options and make then change.

The loop on the SLO has never been an issue for me. I only use effects sparingly though. You guys who don't like it, how are you running it? What I mean is, are you running delay, chorus, etc through all the time? I can see how if you use effects a lot, the loop might bug you. I guess I don't get it.

It can be added with no effect to the tone at all, no holes drilled in front or back. It can be a pedal level loop if needed, I have done a few of them.

There is no such thing as a transparent loop..even the metropoulos loop the one Friedman uses is a tone sucker...minimal but still tone sucker...slo has a preamp out...use it with a wet-dry rig and you are done...it is stupid to mod a 3.000£ amp...all you need is a little di box(get one from bray amps) and a small solid state amp for effects...

Well, I think you would go send or slave out, into fx, into a separate power amp, but then you'd need a separate cabinet for that. I do think that is the best sonic option, but for playing live, that means bringing out more stuff, and it also means a better chance of having a sound man mess you up in the mix.

I think Friedman did used to install the metro loop in his amps, but I don't think he does any longer.

Even if I had my intellifex plugged in, but in bypass mode I still noticed a change in tone. Sounded better unplugged from the loop altogether. And a really noticeable difference too. Still, SLO is a beast...

I disagree that a loop has to be a tone sucker. If setup properly the circuit I use does not change the tone at all. I have been down this row with many picky people with blind tests and there is no tone change... Now what you put in the loop could change your tone for sure, I do agree the best is a wet dry or wet dry wet configuration. The latter is not always feasible for people though.
